AladdinSane_ Posted August 21, 2004 Posted August 21, 2004 hi I was just given this motherboard and would like to build it up I understand the XP2400 chip is the biggesty it will take @ 266mhz Will the chip go right on in , or will the bios need to be upgraded before the board will accept this chip? thanks in advance
Angry_Games Posted August 21, 2004 Posted August 21, 2004 plz check the bios downloads page at http://www.dfi.com.tw/Support/Download/dow..._us.jsp?SITE=US and see what the latest bios(es) say. You should be able to boot to the cpu...if a bios update is needed you should still be able to boot to it but only at the max speed that the current bios allows. Also check for a 100FSB jumper on the board as thats a failsafe to boot with just about any XP cpu. im not familiar with the AD73 but if you have trouble just let me know and ill do the learnin real quick =)
AladdinSane_ Posted August 21, 2004 Posted August 21, 2004 ok cheers now, your not saying it will take a faster processor are you? like into 333mhz etc? i am glad it will boot with any chip and allow me to build -> download the updated bios
RGone Posted August 21, 2004 Posted August 21, 2004 ...did not say> Also check for a 100FSB jumper on the board as thats a failsafe to boot with just about any XP cpu.He was quite specific saying fail safe. Not supported. I don't know the board either but there should be a manual with it when you got it or likely perhaps there is an online manual and more than that I thought you said it was proported to be rated for a 2400? But no sir he did mention one hint of it taking any faster cpu. Fail Safe. Sincerely, RGone...
AladdinSane_ Posted August 21, 2004 Posted August 21, 2004 Well the Manual (written in 2000) says it suppords 266mhz up to 2100+ so i am assuming 2400+ at 266mhz will be ok
Angry_Games Posted August 21, 2004 Posted August 21, 2004 it should take any 266FSB cpu, but probably wont take any 333 Barton
AladdinSane_ Posted August 21, 2004 Posted August 21, 2004 ok cheers big ears!!
Hollolooo Posted August 23, 2004 Posted August 23, 2004 I've built an AD73-Pro with an XP2400+ 266 FSB. I had to download the newest BIOS to detect the CPU correctly, but now its works fine, so this should be no problem for you. I don't think it will run 333 FSB Bartons because the KT266A only supports 266 FSB.
AladdinSane_ Posted August 23, 2004 Posted August 23, 2004 ok thanks.. I'm in australia , could you guys provide me a link to what you feel is the cheapest and most reliable store to buy a CPU?
AladdinSane_ Posted August 26, 2004 Posted August 26, 2004 HAYYYYYLP i installed the XP2400+ CPU I also installed DDR pc3200 ram 1x 512mb I removed my old mobo and placed the DFI mobo in my system and it posted with 'unknown cpu 2000mhz' it booted into windows xp fine and installed stuff like pci bridge, usb controllers etc etc I downloaded the latest official bios flash from the dfi site I also read these forums carefully on upgrading the bios including , a power down and clearing cmos with the jumper immediately after the flash upgrade the bios on post shows as the latest inthe bottom left corner, there is also an option there to press ALT+f2 to access 'awdflash' but this did nothing It still posts as 'Unknown CPU 2000mhz' I have been everywhere in the bios and adjusted agp to 4x and fsb mhz to 266mhz it wont let me change the cpu clock What do i do now guys? AladdinSane_ Posted August 26, 2004 Posted August 26, 2004 its ok , i think i worked it out... it will only boot showing 2000mhz as thats the way AMD boots , its not going to show 2400mhz however..... how do i fix it so it boots to AMD XP Processor and not 'unknown cpu' CPUID image http://www.users.on.net/~footleg/wp/amd2400.jpg
Hollolooo Posted August 26, 2004 Posted August 26, 2004 As I wrote above: It was the same when I installed the XP2400+, then I downloaded the newest BIOS, installed it, an now it boots with XP2400+ ! Which AD73 di you have ? The AD73-Pro or the AD73-Raid ? Here's the link to the latest BIOS of AD73-Pro : http://www.dfi.com.tw/Upload/BIOS/AD73PRO0830.ZIP "Support AMD Athlon 2200+,2400+,2600+ CPU." An here to AD73-Raid : http://www.dfi.com.tw/Upload/BIOS/AD73RAID0524.ZIP ... but as I see, there is no Support in the Bios of AD73-Raid for XP-2400+ ! They have only released a BIOS for AD73-Pro to support newer CPUs, so you have to live whith it, I think. ... but wait, here I found a Beta-Bios from 2003/02/11: http://www.dfi.com.tw/Upload/BIOS/6A6LVD4D1.BIN "1.Add "Promise RAID control" function (to Disable/Enable onboard RAID) 2.To Support AMD thoroughbred CPU" This may work for you, if you have the AD73-Raid !
