Adding to Quad Channel Ram ?

Recommended Posts

The ram in my PC is Quad - Channel, would it be wise to add an additional 16 gigs although it may break the Quad - Channel ?

Depends I guess, are you maxing out your memory already? I can't see there being any gain unless you are currently running out of memory.

Generally speaking you will get more performance out of you quad channel set up than just adding more and sacrificing quad channel.

breaking quad channel isn't the end of the world. It really depends on what your doing and if 16 extra gigs is necessary. You could always go with another set of 4x4gb sticks and have 16gbs.

I am running 12GB of memory on my PC and it's more then sufficient enough to play anything and everything,

except for maybe Witcher 3.

That game on high gpu settings looks to be a demanding game.

Also, keep in mind, that it's not always the amount of memory you have.

Low Cas latency also improves performance.

Have you tried overclocking yet?

It would be more then 16 gigs :) I'm still weighting the pros and cons on whether to add more ram, would you ?

your talking to the person who has 64gb (8x 8gb sitcks lol. If you explained what you normally do like play games or work that it would be easier to say if the 16 extra is a good idea besides the quad channel thing.

I wanted 64, put it that way :)

I have half of that.  I don't play games, only design and high data 3D work as well as programming, that sums it up. :) I wanted to go for a total of 42 gigs. I'm sitting on the fence at the moment :)

32+16=42?

Well if you have 32gb already thats a good amount for most people. I use 64gb all the time making large images so I can relate to needing more. Well going from quad to dual won't affect programing much but maybe 3d work when you render stuff out.
