Coors Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 I went ahead and got the Pioneer speakers and Sony receiver. Only thing I'm undecided on is the sub still. A guy at work has the F12 ( http://www.amazon.com/BIC-America-F12-475-Watt-Subwoofer/dp/B0015A8Y5M/ref=pd_tcs_subst_e_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=16RTCC4F61XZ9S9A4GPA ). He recommends the bigger version PL200 ( http://www.amazon.com/BIC-PL-200-Acoustech-Platinum-Series/dp/B001W3FXAQ ) Are the BIC America's worth the extra money? Waco Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Along with personal experience and user reviews on Amazon, Newegg, Best Buy, you name it.Oh I don't mean they aren't a good bang-for-buck brand to jump to on the low end - but competing with $1000+ speakers? Maybe if you compare them to overpriced stuff... I went ahead and got the Pioneer speakers and Sony receiver. Only thing I'm undecided on is the sub still. You'll almost never regret putting a bit more towards the subwoofer if you watch movies with a lot of LFE.
wildman2 Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 (edited) That is a 7.2 receiver get 2 subwoofers..that are in your range..I have 2 subwoofers 1 that came with the klipsch 5.1 and a repurposed sony both 8in woofers..It's not boomy or muddy relatively clean..but I am going deaf so ymmv.Definatly feel it when the explosions go off.Hate the klipsch 5.1's for music though. wevsspot Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 The F12 is an outstanding value at that price. I would have a hard time justifying the additional cost of the PL-200. Unless you have a gargantuan room or want to rattle your neighbors pictures from their walls, the F12 should be more than adequate. In that price range you might also consider the Polk PSW505. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882290130
Coors Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 (edited) I'm not sure I need two subs lol. I'll start out with one and if I feel the need I can always add another. I found the PL-200 for $260 and free shipping on ebay. I think I might go for it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/371042796660?lpid=82 Edited August 20, 2014 by Coors
Waco Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 I'd go for it. You don't need dual subwoofers unless you want bass locality (which is a bit of a joke, since bass (at LFE frequencies) is non-directional.

Coors Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 Another question about the rear surrounds. I was thinking about mounting them on the wall up high and angled down. Would it be better to have them on a stand? I like the wall mount idea because they'll be out of the way and look cleaner. And my dog wouldn't be able to knock them over. Waco Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 It really doesn't matter much of the time. They're going to be for effects fill for the most part anyway so if it'd be more convenient to mount them up top I'd do that.
sword_fish Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 I was thinking about mounting them on the wall up high and angled down. just like what i did with my surrounds, though i'll stick with it even if there's enough room behind my viewing position for the floor stands. wevsspot Posted August 25, 2014 Posted August 25, 2014 Mine are also mounted in top corners of my walls and angled down. When I built our house I pre-installed speaker wire in all four corners
