  1. The X58 build was/is an Asus Rampage III Formula board.
  2. I recently upgraded (finally) from a i7-920 w/ GTX 670 to a i7-4970k and a GTX 1060. While doing the build I was unable to locate the TC I had purchased initially to refresh the TIM on my 920 so just went with the manufacture pre-applied. I pulled the RAM from my wife's older Sandy Bridge build to cut initial cost on this new build but am looking to either swap out for faster RAM or just add more. Would it be worth swapping/upgrading these here soon for a performance gain and cooling increase? Current: Stock Corsair TC under a H100i V2 Corsair Vengeance 1600 8Gb (4Gb x 2) Upgrade: GELID GC-Extreme (already purchased, not applied) Corsair Vengeance 2400 16Gb (8Gb x 2) (not purchased and open to other options) I will be/do use this for both gaming, and photo/video editing using the Adobe suite and DxO. While no overclocking has been done, yet, I do plan on some play with the numbers, very minor compared to most here though. Thank you for any input and advice!
  3. So I'm being told that my Household goods were lost in being shipped to South Korea, which include my Gaming Rig. I have to wait till the end of the month for a confirmed, yes its gone, but I'm looking at a new build now and even if they do find it I've been talking to someone of selling it and building one anyways. Looking at a FULL build with a new monitor, have an idea what case, and power supply will be decided off the build. NOT including the case, up to $4k USD for the Rig and monitor, only things I would have on hand are my speakers. Intel and NVIDA fan boy so please respect that when making suggestions. I have been leaning toward a X79 w/ Sabertooth Mobo and the IB-E quad core but open to suggestions for others. Nvidia for me but thinking of a using a low end 460 I have collecting dust for now till the 800's come out and going for one which was my plan anyways. Gaming more than anything else, but do have it folding when at work and overnight. OC'ing will be light for day to day use, get a bit more out of it, but nothing heavy except to play around and have some fun. Thinking air cooled with a closed loop, H100 or such, for the CPU to keep it simple.
  4. That answers that for me, thank you all for the advice and saving my money!
  5. I am running an i7 950@ 3.8 currently and thinkin of finally replacing it with an i7 4770k plugged into an Asus Sabertooth, mainly in the hopes that I will get some better performance out of Rift. If there is anyone on here who plays Rift and has upgraded from anything else, esp a first gen i3/5/7 to Haswell and noticed a change would love to hear if it is worth the upgrade or not.
  6. Air purifier Have this in the same room as my system, never have an issue with dust. You can get them at Walmart, amazon, or most other places that sell air purifiers and might find one that works better for the price just make sure its rated for your room size.
  7. CPU: i7 950 MB: ASUS Rampage III Formula Memory: 12GB Graphics: EVGA GTX 670 FTW SSD 120 GB OCZ Vertex III HDD: 2 TB 5900 rpm PSU: Corsair AX850 Case: Coolermaster HAF 922 Monitor(s): 24" asus 1080p KB: Logitech G19 Mouse: Corsair Vengance
  8. I have an ASUS G74 laptop which has 2 drive slots, one has a 750G HDD and the other is open and getting a SSD to put in there. From those of you with more experiance what would be the best, not necessarily the easiest, manner to transfer or move programs from the HDD to the new SDD? I plan on deleting most of them and just spending time redownloading again unless there is a way to just shrink whats on there so it will fit and I can just let it all move from one drive to the other. Thanks for any advice that might make this less painful!
  9. I game over WiFi all the time! Get a good 5GHz N+ router and receiver if your worried about it, but I only us the 2.4ghz channel on mine and it supports my gaming as well as my wife watching Netflix on the other computer just fine. I can pull what I'm paying for from Comcast though it and probably have a buffer that I could increase into if needed. (What I use just FYI) Router: http://www.amazon.com/D-Link-DIR-655-Extreme-N-Gigabit-Wireless/dp/B000LIFB7S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1330829646&sr=8-1 Adapter: http://www.amazon.com/D-Link-DWA-556-Express-Desktop-Adapter/dp/B000N4WRFY/ref=sr_1_11?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1330829700&sr=1-11 Modem: http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-SB6121-SURFboard-DOCSIS-Cable/dp/B004XC6GJ0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1330829635&sr=8-1
  10. Running on the latest NON beta NVIDIA Drivers now that it has a GT 430 in it and was running good for a while, but after some more leg work I found it was the Silverlight program for some reason keeps crashing. Working with them now to resolve it and hopefully be able to watch movies again.
  11. I've been having an issue streaming video from the internet and it will freeze with whatever current sound is playing freezing there as well and making a really annoying sound. These freezes will last anywhere from 15 seconds to long enough that I have to reset the system because its been 10 min and still frozen. I have not had it happen during DVD or BLUray playback. I'm using an ASUS Maximus IV Gene Z68 MoBo and an i5-2500k with the HD 3000 for the video playback. This system doesn't have a dedicated GPU in it as its for my wife who gets more than enough out of the i5 graphics, until now. Any ideas will be helpful as I have done everything I can think of minus a clean reinstall of Win 7 which I would prefer to avoid. I have been playing with the idea of getting a GT 440 or GTS 450 so I can do some light gaming on this system as well since its hooked up to our main TV but I don't want to drom the money on a video card if it won't fix whatever issue this thing is having. * I just installed a GTX 460 into it and downloading drivers now and gonna see what happens using a dedicated card instead of the integrated processor
  12. Just got my Asus G74Sx for when I'm out on the road stuck in hotels and installed F@H for when I'm not in my room... hopefully will be running for 4-8 hrs a day!
  13. I have a Seasonic 560W, X-560 SS-560KM PSU in my recent build. I have had it running now for about a week with this one in it and today when I was plugging something in I had my head down near it and I heard a slight but really high pitch squeal coming from the computer (powered off state). I listened closely and it seemed to be coming from the psu so I unplugged it and as the power drained from it the sound lessened and went away. I plugged it back in and the sound came right back so I just turned off the switch on it and as it drained the built up charge again, the sound went away. When the system is running its too quiet to hear so idk if its there when its running but if it is I cannot hear it. Any ideas on what it might be and if I should be concerned or not are welcome.
  14. GTX 460 is a solid choice for price to perform, GTX 560 is solid as well. Other than that you would need a new processor and that would mean new mobo and all that goes with swapping those out. Not sure but if the 260 supports SLI, but if your mobo and psu can that would be an easy fix as well.
  15. Have the 3@200mm, front and side intake, top exhaust, bottom intake with a filter due to dust buildup under the case and the rad for my H70 in the back 120mm slot pulling from the outside. It pushes the heat into the case but I mounted it both ways and the temp for the CPU went down this way and I didn't notice any increase for other areas and the top fan sucking out the heat. Best thing I've found is to have a good air filter in the room with this to cut down on the dust buildup due to so many fans.
