Gmail massive spam attack, need help!

So on Saturday, I noticed my gmail inbox had over 200 emails in it, and that was odd. I checked my spam folder and it had almost 50,000 emails in it. I deleted them all, placed emails I needed in a separate folder and continued from there. Same thing Sunday, nearly 45,000 spam received and still today. Gmail's spam filter is filtering them out 100%, but if the spam folder gets to around 50,000 they start bleeding into my inbox, which is bad. 

 

Anything I can do?

Is it possible that someone has hacked your GMail account?  If that is even a remote possibility you should change your GMail password ASAP.  Make it a strong password and then while you're managing your account settings make sure and setup up two factor authentication.

 

There are multiple ways to help deal with the spam issue in GMail.  So not knowing what you've done already makes it hard to recommend trying something new at the risk of repeating something that you've already done

Yup, all done and changed the password as well.

 

This morning it just stopped, no more spam. Not sure what the point of it was or why it stopped though.
