potatochobit Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 was thinking about upgrading my NAS file server but when I look at DDR3 prices, they are higher than they were last year this is really weird since SSD prices are dropping so much so what should I do? I need the cheapest CPU and MB combo it has to be 8GB though, so that would make DDR2 too expensive? can we expect DDR3 prices to drop significantly this black friday? slick2500 Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 The price of DDR3 rose since last year at this time, I remember 8GB of DDR3 being about $45-$50 last summer. The price hasn't really gone up or down much since January.
WhenKittensATK Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 Don't remember the prices, but I do remember getting 16gb ddr3 for like 50-60 used. Don't see anything close to that anymore.
SpikeSoprano Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 Yes are high and from the look of it they will not go down any time soon, if most people jumped on the ddr4 craze then ddr3 would drop in price but I can't see that happening . Waco Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 I'm not sure what the correlation between DDR3 prices and NAND flash is, but yeah, memory prices have been going up recently.
ir_cow Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 yeah they are going up. two years ago just about this time, I got a 32gb G.skill kit for $120. They will drop again when DDR4 takes off. Maybe another price fixing event will happen.

Samsung Wonder RAM 2x4GB for $35 at it's lowest. Price is probably going up since most are manufacturing DDR4 RAM, maybe? They probably don't want DDR3 prices to go down so more people just settle for DDR3 setups instead of moving onto DDR4.

This is my theory, prices may not go down much if at all because they want to sell DDR4, just like how measly DDR2 is still fairly expensive.
