The thing to do now is run CPU-Z and find out if you have a B2 or G0 stepping Q6600. If G0, either overclock it by setting the FSB to 1333 while leaving the vcore at stock or if your board does not allow overclocking, use the famous 1066 -> 1333 BSEL mod.

BSEL mod 2: http://banglagamer.com/showthread.php?6546-Intel-Processor-MOD-(BSEL-VID)-Guide

So that's all overclocking methods without using a motherboard?

Very helpful, Wardozer, thanks. Looks pretty layman as well, but will proceed with caution should I go ahead.

CPU-Z reports Stepping B - Revision G0 - so I guess that's a green light on the processor. Yet to determine if my motherboard supports overclocking. Or the fact that my processor has G0 stepping is saying that my motherboard allows overclocking, ah yes. I'll need some time to digest all this new info. Thermal paste too, before i do anything.

Ta.
