my sister has a 19" monitor and its just too damn big for my taste so i'm going to dual 17" monitors in 4:3. my current computer can't hardly handle flash games let alone decent computer games. i'll be using the new build for both games and some 3d rendering if i ever get back to it. the graphics card is good enough it'll run both monitors and easily play video on my 47" tv. the ssd/hdd is as far as i know the only one that can closely match an ssd in speed and hdd in capacity. budget isn't really a big deal i'm expecting to spend 2-3 grand on this project.

i'm thinking about it, right now i can get a 975 for $900 so we'll see. i still am having trouble finding ram that's tri channel and runs at 2200mhz.
-
i would have to start from scratch on my build so no.
-
nah i should be good on that. any idea where i can get 3 sticks of 4Gb tri channel 2200Mhz RAM?
-
it'll be a month or two before i can get the money together for all the parts. i've got the case and i'll be ordering the dual 17" screens in a few days.

pentium 4 (478) 512Mb ram upgraded to 1.5Gb XP 256 or 512Mb agp graphics card 400 watt power supply 80Gb HDD original heatsink not really an upgradable machine, but it works (slowly).
-
you mean from what i have to that one? i'd expect nothing less. i was thinking maybe an ultra chilltec.

so i've been waiting 7 years to do my first build since i realized the computer i got from dell as a kid was crap. now i've got the income to work with so i'm doing it. case: ultra m998 MOBO: Gigabyte G1.Guerrilla cpu: intel I7 975e power supply: ~850watt haven't decided brand yet SDD/HDD: Seagate ST95005620AS Momentus XT 500GB Solid State Hybrid Drive OS: windows 7 heat sink: undecided RAM: undecided GPU: Radeon HD 6850 1Gb i'm having trouble finding ram at the max range(2200Mhz) of the MOBO in tri channel any suggestions? and i was hoping to find a decent heat sink that would suit my case well its got an intake/exhaust right over the cpu so i thought maybe one that would blow straight out of the case? but other wise i'd get one with push/pull fans and heatpipes.

buy her a cheap laptop off of walmart.com or tigerdirect or something you'll save $700 or more and she'll leave you alone. my dell is 6 years old and runs fine not great for gaming but it gets the job done. (i've got 1.5Gb's of ram and a 256Mb graphics card as upgrades) she must be running a celeron if its as bad as you say.

second build just looking for some opinions on parts
championjc replied to championjc's topic in System Builds
i'll probably build my own loop i just used it to figure out what the price would be. anyone have any suggestions on parts for this i've never put one together. as far as a budget goes i figure its going to cost me about $1500 to $2000. here are the specs for the ultra tower. its a little bigger than a regular mid tower and has 4 or 5 drive bays and 4 hd bays. for the OS i wish i could stick with XP but i guess windows 7 is the way to go. -

i don't have any experience with overclocking so i'd like to just stick with the unlocked multiplier and keep it simple. -

are the 920 and 975 the same processor with different clock speeds? -
first build was a dell (shoot me now) but its lasted me 6 years with about $200 in upgrades in the last three years. but its time for an upgrade so here's what i'm looking at: Intel Core i7 920 Gigabyte EX58-UD3R Motherboard OCZ Gold Tri Channel 6GB PC16000 DDR3 2000MHz Memory - 3x2048MB XION Power Real 1000W ATX Power Supply ThermalTake Big Water 760i Liquid Cooling System Kit Ultra m998 Lite-On Blu Ray ROM - BD-ROM 4X, DVD-ROM 8X, CD-ROM 32X Samsung SH-S223C_BE DVDRW Drive a solid state drive 50-100Gb and possibly a separate ssd for the OS Seagate Barracuda Hard Drive - 750GB graphics card is still up in the air but i want to go with dual 1Gb with crossfire maybe a Sapphire Radeon HD 5770 or a Diamond Radeon HD 5770 (the only difference i can find between the two is the fan mount any suggestions on which is better?) OS - windows 7 i'm open for opinions on all of this stuff.
