Hi everyone! I am looking to build a new rig mainly for gaming any opinions would be appreciated thanks!

Case: Silverstone Fortress FT02s

Mainboard: Asus Maximus Formula

CPU: i7-4770k Haswell

HSF: Noctua NH-D14

Power Supply: Seasonsonic Platinum SS-860XP2 860watt

Memory: 16gb Gskill Trident X 2400mhz Cas 10

GPU: EVGA GTX 780 ACX cooler

HDD: Samsung 840 Pro ssd 256gb

Monitor: Asus 27" PB278Q 1440p monitor

Speakers: Logitech Z263 THX

Keyboard: Microsoft Sidewinder X4

Mouse: Logitech G500

Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST

The reason I want to get that watt psu is so I can SLI another 780 in the future. A quick question the 4770k is fast enough stock clocks to not be a bottleneck? Or would it be wise to OC it and eliminate any bottleneck? If you see a product in my list and know of a better one please let me know. I would also like to allocate some memory to Ram Disk and I heard that 16gb is the minimum that you should have for this program.

Looks like a fine build, I guess for the OC...try stock first with the cards and then maybe OC it a little (maybe to 4.0ghz which should be just a set and reset ordeal) and if the performance increases than it's a bottleneck and if it doesn't feel free to set back to stock!

How come no bluray drive with many other things a little "over spent"

I'm assuming there's no over budget with this?

I don't really watch many movies that's why no BD drive. If I do I d\l them. The budget limit is 3500$ this one comes to 3200$.

I don't see what you could really change, unless you wanted a bigger SSD, large storage drive and/or a 2560x1600 30" monitor

Personally I'd save some money and get 1600 speed memory but that's up to you since you're still in budget. (I'm also not a fan of "named" "gaming" motherboards but again that's even more personal a choice)

Oh hell yes, unless your benchmark freak you'll NEVER notice the difference between 2400mhz and 1600mhz with daily usage (unless you boot up CPU-Z and see the number lower). Just tell yourself that they're 3000mhz!!

I mean higher speed RAM may help out more in VERY select situations but even then the performance increase is marginal. Usually more memory quantity always beats memory speed if the memory is what's holding you back.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz I don't know what the --- is going on with the quote button but well..

I play with 1600mhz memory @1033mhz.. yes. Hahahaaha in order to run EPU to use processor at less speed.. for power saving I have to let EPU control it so there is no way I can use EPU+1600mhz memory.

Let me tell you what.. difference is ZERO (0). For gaming 1033, 1600 or 890000mhz is no difference. Videocard is all and your card is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!! Also your processor is more than good. I play preeeeeety good even BF3 with high settings with this 460, imagine with yours =)

Ok cool thanks guys. I'll just stick with 1600mhz then. Uh I have heard that 30" 1600p monitors for the most part are over saturated and the average gamer really wouldn't benefit from them is that true?

Great looking build.  If you wanted to save some money and take a chance you might consider changing out the Asus monitor for one of the Korean IPS 2560x1440 monitors.  Here are three that you might consider;

QNIX QX2710 LED Evolution II

http://www.amazon.com/QNIX-QX2710-Evolution-LED-Monitor/dp/B00BUI44US/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=38CSU2GHRPBLJ&coliid=I2ZW4RVSB8F210

Very good price and can be overclocked to 80 to 120Hz

Achieva Shimian QH2700 -IPSMS Lite Edge

http://www.amazon.com/Achieva-Shimian-QH2700-IPSMS-LITE-Edge/dp/B00DQK3936/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_S_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=38CSU2GHRPBLJ&coliid=I28CYRPMZE2T7B

Crossover Blacktune 2735AGM

http://www.amazon.com/BLACK-TUNE-2735AMG-IPS-LED/dp/B00D77MVVE/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_S_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=38CSU2GHRPBLJ&coliid=INNL4N7IJ7QOL

You can find a lot of information on these Korean monitors in a thread here;

Korean Monitor Club

With the money you're saving on the monitor invest in a good mechanical keyboard.  The MS Sidewinder X4 is a very good mid-range keyboard, very good, but once you start using a great mechanical keyboard you won't every go back to a membrane keyboard.

Cool any suggestions on a good mechanical keyboard? I decided instead of saving up all the money at once(3200$) i'm gonna buy the parts in stages. I think coming up on the 1st i'm gonna get the case, psu, and optical drive. I'm actually thinking about waiting to make the GPU the last purchase just maybe the price will drop on it or the monitor possibly.

If my Tarantula ever dies maybe, I still don't see the logic of buying a keyboard just because though :O Edited by IVIYTH0S
