I have an interest in, and a great passion for, everything Electrical/Mechanical. My Grandad was an electrical engineer and when I was a kid we built all sorts of stuff together. It helps me now what my grandad taught me. I have a professional background in repair and maintenance of POS computers and other electronic & computer equip as well as having worked as an apprentice carpenter and a chef when I was in college.
I love to cook, especially for other people.
I love to read books and mags of all types and also am a real people watcher. I guess I find people so interesting as a result of having gotton a degree in Psychology.

1. Wouldn't mind knowing what that's about though? It's no where near an X850 XT? lol 517448[/snapback] Tried the things you mentioned, unfortunately no joy. Sorry, I guess that was'nt too clear. What i meant was that I would like to get an X850XT to replace the X600Pro, silly me...lol
2. A really good hunch, I was thinking the same U were but was hoping against hope that it wasn't the PSU because it will take a week or more to order it from overclock.co.uk. They have the best prices and selection over here. I really wish I were back home in San Fran when these things happen so's i could order from somebody like Newegg. They don't ship here tho. Wish they did! What a PITY!!! The more suggestions you guys come up with I know we'll solve it. I think you're right tho caffeinejunkie, unfortunately for me only in that i will have to wait for the fix.
3. Hi, Thanx for the quick reply. That's what I figured, so I plugged the stock HSF into its header and it never even got to the alarm, it shut down immediatley...and i do mean immediately (i can't help but thinking this is somehow extremely relevant). Also, I realise you had to ask, but of COURSE I put thermal on the block (Arctic Silver 5). I have also checked that no parts..eg: capacitors, resistors or chips were broken or chipped during install. I have √'d and dbl √'d that all connectors were plugged into the right headers and done so correctly. In addition, I have tried to rule out varoius possibilities by plugging & replugging each component 1 by 1 to rule out a bad periph. I have a feeling this is ultimately going to be solved thru serendipity via trial & error. I'm truly at this point keep the suggestions coming everyone PLEASE as i'm sure that someone might surely hit on something that I haven't thought of tried. I welcome and appreciate all responses & suggestions.
4. Hi All, I recently built a new rig with the a AA8XE, P4 3.2Ghz(640) in May. I installed a new Thermaltake BigWater CPU Cooler the other day and when I restart the rig it goes through its initialisation sequences an alarm starts and it shuts down. It never gets far enough to boot. Everything was re-installed the exact same way as it was when it was running brilliantly. I reset the BIOS to disable the CPU & HS shutdown alarm I had configged, so the lack of a fan attached to the CPU fan connector would'nt cause the system to shut down. Is it possible the BIOS dicn't reset? I even removed the battery as the possibility occurred to me that the jumper BIOS reset might not be working properly , all this to no avail. I don't want to go too far into everything I tried as it would make a long list. Let's just say I tried everything I could think of which was, I thought, quite alot. Can anyone help? has anyone ever run ino this prob with this board? I ruled out the CPU being fried for a host of reasons... It is new, I did'nt change/replace it and the CPU being fried wouldn't cause the alarms and shutdown...would it? could it? I know by default the BIOS has a CPU temp shutdown alarm but the CPU temp sensor on my sys cntrllr (AeroCool Gatewatch) never gets above 22
