  1. It's a cheap 450 W PSU and I will be directing airflow 1/2 of a 120mm fan onto the pcb and the heatsinks, as for shielding would a plastic compartment with aluminum tape do? and it will be grounded onto the case in some fashion I thought about other power supplies, but the catch is that this computer will be using about 200W currently and well about 400 + watts of the 450 in the long run, considering pump dvd burner, and currently an E4300 @3ghz and well later on probabaly some quadcore @ 4Ghz.
  2. Yeah I thought about doubling up because if there's a big leak the green and yellow wire is what's gonna save my butt it will trip the fuse in no time flat, well in theory it should terramir
  3. I'm putting a computer inside an old amplifier case, the catch is since I'm cramming a rad, pump etc, and other stuff in there I will not have much room for anything else, including the power supply. So I figure that I could remove the power supply from it's casing and mount it on the inside of the plastic front. easy enough to do, but the power supply has the 3rd wire mounted to a screw that holds the PCB to the power supplies case, which means the 3rd wire is connected to the case via the case of the power supply. Now the question is should I run a wire from the 3rd wire also to the metal case in order to ensure everything is safe, and the fuse get's triggered in case the case get's electrified for some reason? let me know terramir
  4. okies I have a freezone $51 off e-bay extended the hoses to the cpu block so I could situate it outside the case for now. I want to add a rad before it gets back to the pelt blocks. hence pre-cooling the warm water that comes from the cpu, the difference in temp is fairly noticeable from the hot side to the cold side I think that has to do with the system being low flow. 56 watts in pelts is not much to say here, however on idle it can drop quite a bit. I want this thing to stabilize the temps just above room temp while it's on idle (instead of dipping below) and decrease the load temps. Do you think from a cooling standpoint that the rad will help decrease the fluctuations terramir
  5. Why don't you just add a zalman heatsink? I see that fan and the header is non standard I had a noise problem with my dragon+ fan too but no random reboots here. The noise was getting on my nerve though so I replaced it with a zalman and put some arctic silver 3 on my chipset and now it's tha same temp without a fan terramir
  6. guys I'm a silent modding specialist, B) three notes to this thread #1 in sound 1+1 doesn't equal 2 rule of thumb two of something add 3 dBA, if you have a total of more fans it get's a little more complicated there are some freeware tools out there that help you calculate but right now I can find it I will post the link later. #2 if you want 100+ cfm go with 2 NMB Tech DC4710NM-04W-B10-P00 that would be about 118 cfm at about 30 dba 27 +3 equals about 30dBA That would be a sensible solution vs. a Sunon KD1212PMB1-6A which would be about 108dBA at 40dBA loud! anyhow that's more sensible #3 one more thing that you might notice if you use rubber washers the fans vibration to the case will be dampened and you won't have that much case vibration noise Hope this helps terramir I myself use pabst nmb fans but I'm replacing them with Pabst 4412FGL which are a little quieter 26dBA
  7. Check out my case there are some more pics at www.angelfire.com/space/terramirmods I like it so far what you think terramir
  8. Ok I'm thinking about buying myself a stick of xms corsair pc 3500 c2 will this stuff later when I upgrade my MB do 200/400FSB at 2.0-2-2 5-1-T1? any of you have experiance? I'm planning on unlocking an xp 2600 or 2800 depending on when it comes out and a board comes out with 200/400 fsb support meaning an /6 PCI divider can't go with geil because it won't run at 2.5 V which my current MB only supports:( and right now I will be just using it for maybe an 145 FSB overclock at 2. 0-2-2 5-1-T1 2 bank interleave maybe 4 bank can't get that to run stable right now. not sure four bank even works with one stick? terramir
  9. What's everybody got against geil with AMD, I've heard people had some problems with agp tearing but that has to do with the pci divider, My plan right now is to run the thing at 200 mhz with a /6 divider so the pci and agp would be in spec. I'm not worried about agp tearing because I don't want to oc my pci and agp devices! Considering my next system might just have a 9700 pro I don't really have to worry about oc'ing my vidcard either. for a long time to come hehe. I just want to rid myself of the bottleneck in my system now that crucial stuff is killing me and have the right memory avalible for my fsb overclock bed later. I want the high end stuff, but I'm not going to go overboard a stable /6 board is bound to come out soon and unlocking the xp 2600 so I can down the multiplier will take about two weeks after that thing gets on the market someone will figure out how to unlock the multiplier. this thing will be mildly oc'ed where the processor goes 66 or 166 mhz considering the guys and tom's actually oc'ed the thing to be an xp 3000 xp 2700 or 2850 should be able to be achived with little problem I want the 200 Mhz system bus to eleminate that darn bottle neck that's been killing the XP vs P4 on the benchmarks that depend on bandwidth there will still be one or to optimised tests where the p4 will win but not half of them anymore hehe. Some of you P4 owners might be offended but the p4 su*** rocks I mean yeah that thing is great on the optimised tests but really if you think about it the athlon has more raw processing power. Kinda like a detroit war horse 9 cylinder vs a 5 cylinder riceburner with NOS. I like the amd war horse better but it's getting throttled by the memory bandwidth. will geil work for that? And also will geil pc 3500 memory run on 2.5 v at 133 just a question temporarly till I get my new setup? plz help terramir
  10. Hello What's the best OC memory? This is my plan xp 2600 unlocked, 200/400 fsb /6 pci divider when a board comes out where /6 divider works! But I need some better memory for this rig anyway and I will then take it along. pc 3200 or PC 3500 CL2.0-2-2 @ 200/400 mhz fsb cmd 1 512 megs bank interleave 4, and all the other aggressive settings. just I need memory that will support it. Which should I go with? Which memory will give me rock solid stablity once I make the jump? Also another question which is better one 512 chip or two 256 chips? Which will be more stable and faster at the most aggresive timings? Let me know plz terramir
  11. I was installing some programs for a friend and because his system clock was way off 09-14-2053, I discovered this! A new version of the Y2K bug, to be exact Jan 18th 2038 at 7:14:08 pm PST. the problem is the following windows media player 8 and encarta 2001 and picture it publishing, aol 7.0 install virusscan 6.0 will not work beyond this date and time, Now this is what I call making us renters, Yeah we don't own the software we rent it and if we use it beyond the time they want us to there is some sort of bug. terramir I think they will fix it by then though
  12. I have this lian-li rh 322 harddrive tray and a spare tray three keys are also included as well as 6 screws to fit the harddrives in the trays. Good for someone who wants to swap harddrives since they have fans in the back and have an aluminum tray, with a plastic lid. nevertheless it's a bit noisy since the fan in the back adds to the noise and the seek noise is right in the front of the computer. This is why I removed the racks(i'm one of those silent PC freaks) I had I used two but whlie I was unscrewing one of them I broke a little metal piece on the side. I will send that one. too. but I don't know if you could get that rack to work. Asking priced here is thirty dollars since they go for 25 and 19 for the spare tray that seems fair. shipping and handling via usps priority 8 bucks maybe a little more to alaska and hawaii you get one working rack with two trays and one defective rack maybe you can fix or use for spare parts. terramir
  13. Hello I would like to know something would it be good to remove the heatsink on the northbridge of the soyo dragon plus and put some artic silver 3 inbetween? #1 anyone have experiance with that board? #2 is it stuck to there or is it just attached with the things on the side of the fan and heatsink? #3 is this actually worth it? hope some of you have some answers out there Thanks terramir
  14. go with at least pc-2700 or pc-3000 memory and go with any of the brands above, PC 2100 is not very good for oc'ing since it's bus speed is rated 133/266 and go with cl2 so you can time it to the max like this 2.0-2-2 5-2-2 this is the fastest you can pretty much get right now terramir
  15. I'm looking for a mother board, which is ddr based which has a /6 pci divider. I want to clock a xp 2000 at 1800 mhz or xp 2100 or 2200 with a 9x or 9.5x divider at a 200 Mhz Bus Speed with 512 Mb pc 3200 cl 2 memory anybody know a motherboard that will work for this project? This should be a rocking project Bandwith galore! terramir
