New build

I'm currently preparing a new gaming rig build but I have been out the game for a few years and would like some opinions on my selections.

Items I'm considering buying:

Intel CPU Core i7 3820 Quad Core Socket 2011

MSI GeForce GTX 670 Power Edition OC

MSI X79A-GD45 (8D) Intel X79Socket 2011

Cooler Master Storm Enforcer SGC-1000-KWN1 Black Mid Tower Gaming Case

I still haven't chose a PSU or RAM yet so any recommendations would be great, 8gb of ram should be enough for now.

Other items that will be going in but already have are 2 x 120gb SSD, 2 x 1TB Sata, Asus Xonar D2x, Asus EN210 PCI-E (as PhysX card) and an optical drive.

Thoughts? Ideas and recommendations are welcome, especially on the PSU but keep in mind I'm running low on money for that and the RAM :)

Go with 1155 not 2011 you'll get more performance for less money

Really? Do you have a CPU and mainboard in mind?

Would the 2011 not be more future proof?

I agree with Stoner on a 1155 board. What is this machine for anyway? If it is just for gaming you are spending way too much.

If you are worried about the future I would wait a few months and get Haswell and its 1150 socket. If you can't wait, I would save more than just a few bucks and go 1155/3570K.

Yeah mainly a gaming rig, just read about Haswell and S1150 sound interesting!

My current rig is starting to show its age on certain games now so I wanted to build a new one asap, if I could upgrade my current one then it wouldn't be a problem.

Well buying right now I would go these then:

The board I am suggesting is an extremely solid (and popular) board and one of the few boards I see on that site actually selling cheaper than you can buy it for in the States making it an even better deal. Selling for $200 currently here.

The 3570K is like your current chip - the best bang for your buck CPU out right now. Or buy the non-K edition if you don't plan on overclocking.

Probably get a 660Ti or 7950 (whichever cheapest) instead of the 670. Anything higher than the 660Ti/7950 is an overkill at 1080p IMO (at least for now).

That "at least for now" part is the only reason I think the 670 would be a better choice. Otherwise I agree.
