Registry Hack for Continued Windows XP Updates

If for some reason you just have to keep running a Windows XP machine and would like to continue receiving at least some patches and updates;

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

 

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\WPA\PosReady]

 

"Installed"=dword:00000001

 

Do you copy all of the above into the text file or just the last 2 lines ?

The last 2 will work just fine.

 

I would encourage anyone running XP to upgrade though...

I agree, upgrade if you do any online work, I just use my old P4 rig for a server to my tv for movies and such.

I am going to try this to a couple of older dual core rigs for my roomates to use. I may also try to clone thier drives and just reinstall vista business too. Which ever way I go they wont exactly be hp's anymore lol

The last 2 will work just fine.

 

I would encourage anyone running XP to upgrade though...

 

Some of us are employed in the private sector and don't have as much discretionary income   :)

 

A copy of Windows would be the least expensive part of any build outside of cooling.

Windows costs less than $100. Even budget build components are generally $100+
