  1. E6750 for $194.99 sound good or should I aim higher? I've decided to go with a single card solution so the board(s) and ram are set. Edit: This is turning into a processor thread... oi.
  2. That was the exact kit I was thinking of getting. I considered a DFI offering first, since I planned on going with one of their boards for my Opteron build, but was scared off by the same things I hear about the DFI boards now. From what I've read, the amount of options (within BIOS) can be quite daunting and as I'm not going to be pushing this system to its absolute limit, would it warrant going with the DFI? I've been wanting to go SLI, but I figured since the 8 series is a pretty significant leap it warrants an upgrade, even if it takes a while longer. I probably should have stated what this system will be used for in the first post, but primarily it's a gaming machine that I'm going to watch a lot of movies on, and every now and then, type a paper on. Right now I'm only playing WoW and lately CoD4, but ever since my 2007wfp came in, I've been running everything at medium to low settings (hell, CoD4 is running at 800x600 in multiplayer and I still notice slowdowns here and there).
  3. I've been looking at the Gigabyte boards, but stumbled upon the abit IP35 Pro and to tell the truth, I'm quite taken by it. Being something of an abit fanboy in my P4 days, I'd hoped to come back to their boards in the future. Feedback on both seems positive, but does anyone know of issues on either board? So far I have an E6750 and a Gigabyte P35 or Abit IP35 Pro, and I've been looking at some G.Skill HZ to top it all off. Not bad at about $509 (plus $119 for a legit copy of Vista), as I was honestly expecting it to cost a lot more. My 7900gt should hold out until I manage to sell off my paintball gear (why am I so attracted to expensive hobbies? Gah). I still have to pick out a cooling system, but that's for another forum.
  4. Checking newegg, the e6750 is actually cheaper. Thanks.
  5. Boy, this place has changed quite a bit since I last visited. Anyway, I come to you today asking for a little advice concerning motherboards, specifically, a board suited for a reasonable e6600 build. Specs in sig are outdated (by about two builds), but I'm currently sitting on a fairly decent Opty 165 system (which I never could quite unleash) that is looking to be turned into a home media/storage server. Basically, I'm done lugging around 63 lbs. of CM stacker and dust to college and back home. For now, I'm concentrating on replacing the innards of the beast before I give it a new home. As a man who stays behind the curve primarily to save a bit of cash, I figure with the holiday season coming up I might as well dive back into Intel's offerings. Currently I have an E6600 Conroe picked out, but the next step in my planning process is where I get stuck. It seems like intel decided to just start spawning chipsets at whim. With so much to choose from, I was wondering what would be best for me. I'm not looking to take this chip to the brink of destruction, but I would like a slight overclock (sticking with air cooling). I'll most likely end up with 4 or 5 hard drives in this system, adding one as the previous drive fills up. My 7900GT will be carried over from my previous build until I have the funds for some flavor of 8800. PSU will be carried over as well (600W OCZ GameXStream). Ram hasn't been decided on so if you have some you'd like to suggest it'd be appreciated. If there's anything I forgot to mention please tell me. I've been out of the loop for way too long. Thanks, Panda
  6. I'd like to, but thanks to my schedule for the next two months, I'll have to get this issue resolved sometime this week. If the RMA took a day or two it'd be an option, but there's no way an RMA would go through that quickly. Once life settles down I'll send it on in and have them give it a look over.
  7. It's official, my corsair has bit the dust. After one too many blue screens and lockups, I decided to swap each component out one by one and determined the cause. Now I'm in the market for another gig (2x512) of ram, and am in need of suggestions. Any ideas as to what would work best with my setup?
  8. I picked up an x800pro earlier this week at compusa as an emergency replacement for my dead 9600xt. Snagged it for $300 after MIR (normally retails there for $350)... But would it be worth returning and getting the x800xl? I'm not sure of their return policy, but I'm sure I have a few days.
  9. I had my motherboard (Asus P4S800D-E Deluxe) and video card (Ati Radeon 9600XT) die on me last week, so I purchased an Abit IC7-G Max2 and a Radeon x800pro. I had one hell of a time installing windows due to the fact that I would get the BSOD every time. I decided to try my old pc2700 sticks, and to my surprise, it installed without a hitch. After installing I stuck my gig (2x512) of Corsair 3200XLPro back in, hoping it would work. Bumped the voltage up to 2.8. It seemed to be fine, but last night and today, the BSOD graced me with its presence thrice. I finally gave up and stuck my old samsung back in. Anyone heard of/had this problem before? I'm not overclocked as of yet, but without the corsair I don't really want to try. It performed flawlessly on my old board, and I'm stumped as to why it's having so much trouble with my new one. Any help in this matter will be much appreciated, as I'm tight on cash and don't want to spend a lot of money to replace ram I already spent so much on.
  10. One of the newer gamesharks allows you to connect to the internet (via the network adaptor + a broadband connection) and download gamesaves from their server. I believe you can also download saves to a usb flash memory device and then load them using the gameshark utility, but I haven't tested that yet.

    Gran Turismo 4

Okay, so the graphics are greatly improved, just didn't want to go overboard and say that they're the best I've ever seen, y'know? The fact that I can't transfer everything is a tad annoying, but it's nothing that would make me think worse of the game, just a tiny smudge on an otherwise perfect surface. The level of realism is where GT beats out pretty much all other drivers, and the fact that they still use real-world performance stats paired with the ability to actually tune the performance is part of what got me into Gran Turismo. No other game can top it, imho.

    Gran Turismo 4

When I first got it, I was going to classy lady about the lack of online play. An hour and a half later, I didn't care about online at all. To me, it was that good. The licenses are annoying though, and it wouldn't transfer my GT3 licenses past A & B. The only real drag is that I can't transfer more than 100,000 credits from my GT3 save, because I had well over 100,000. The graphics are somewhat improved (compared to 3), pretty good considering that PS2 doesn't really apply AA. Oh, and if anyone gets the Model-T, report back with a top speed.
  13. Gran Turismo 4 is killer, picked it up yesterday. The only time I'm not playing is when I'm in class/studying or playing Battlefield Vietnam. It should hold you over until the new hardware comes in. I've been trying to pass the super license test for hours, still nothing... Maybe it's me. The temporary downgrade will be very well worth it, eh?
  14. They might as well go ahead and add some leetspeak in there.
  15. Just what exactly is an "Audigy2 ZS High Definition"? They just love hype-phrases, don't they?
