Real benefits of SB-E/IB-E over IB/HW i5-i7

You're on point with that observation.  And in fact I edited my post above yours.  I started out with the i5 3570K as a baseline, but reality is that the previous generation SB chips are plenty enough also.

Heck, if I had your system the only thing I'd add is another GTX 680   :)   and depending on how much memory is currently installed up that a bit.  While I believe everyone that says you can get by with 4 or even 8Gb, I'm more of a 12 or 16Gb guy myself (depending on socket 1366 or socket 1155).

Honestly (and this is just my opinion) if you are already gaming on socket 1366 with an i7 950 or better... or socket 1155 with i7 2600K or better, I don't see a lot of benefit to moving to Haswell.

Heyyy, whatever a 950 can do, my 920 can do just as well lol

No argument from me there.  I had two 920's that could overclock just as well as my 950   :)

Although (at least in my personal experience) the 950 had a better memory controller and could run DDR3 2133Mhz memory and a good overclock on the cpu (with adequate amounts of QPI/VTT voltage).  With my 920s it was one or the other.

no offence but both of your guys 920's could not keep up with my 950 (when i was still rockin it)  :yucky:    But yes like these guys are saying the 920 is still a very good cpu for gaming.   If i didnt like to upgrade so much id still be rockin the 950 system.

Yeah, I've decided to wait until Haswell-E until I build my next rig. There honestly aren't any upcoming video games coming out that allow me to justify any further investment into my PC. I think my next investment in gaming will be either a PS4 or XB1. Just for a change of pace until the HW-E's launch.

However, I would love to purchase some more of those Samsung memory modules, if I ever find them on newegg that is.
