InCrYsIs Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 This is the board I am eyeballing for when IB releases. http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4169#ov
Coors Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 So these Ivy Bridge CPUs are still quad core. Why? I have been waiting to do an upgrade but I don't want to move to another Quad Core. I WILL NOT BUY AMD!!! Me too. I'm thinking of upgrading later this year but don't really want to go with another quad. Looks like my best bet will still be a x79 and a 3930k well into 2013...might just hold onto my 920 for another year.

My Mobo is getting old and only supports crossfire. I just don't want the board to start flaking. This is the longest I have ever had a primary system. Plus I want another 570. Most of the parts are rather new compared to board and chip. You just get that paranoid feeling. "My board is 4 years old......" DanTheGamer11 Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 I don't think the power reduction is enough to warrant 2 or more cores, apart from using more energy, they couldn't really show off? Best of waiting for Haswell...
Coors Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 You just get that paranoid feeling. "My board is 4 years old......" I wouldn't worry about the age. It's not going to melt down and catch on fire just because it's four or more years old. My sister is still using one of my old Opty 170/DFI SLI-DR computers thats been overclocked to 3 Ghz since i've had it, 2005 I think. tbris84 Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 (edited) This is the board I am eyeballing for when IB releases. http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4169#ov I'm looking at this ASUS Maximus V Gene for my IB rig. My first Micro ATX build. Looks to be plenty of room for CFX/SLI as long as they are dual slot cards, triple slot cards...not so much. (http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/Maximus_V_GENE/) Also, what's with the lack of IB love? I'm looking forward to the IB processors for several reasons. Mainly because with IB I can affordably obtain PCIe3.0. The one advantage of the SB-E boards is the ability to run 2 PCIe x16 GPU's. Yes, with IB we're still stuck with 2 PCIe x8, but those x8 slots will have double the bandwidth in comparison to their PCIe2.0 counterparts. Am I wrong? d6bmg Posted April 4, 2012 Posted April 4, 2012 And I'm closely following Asus P8Z77-V PRO for my own need. Although I've no idea about pricing. Hopefully it will be around $250 mark.
McLizardman Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Does anyone know if there will be a significant increase in clock-for-clock performance? Sandy-bridge is amazing in that department, but I'm hoping Ivy will be even better.
Waco Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 It's supposed to be a few percent better IIRC.
