  1. Thanks guys. I guess I'll leave it out.
  2. Update. After a few days of frustrating blue screens of death, on a hunch I took out one set of my RAM (2 sticks). Then install completed without a hitch. Not sure it it was a mobo, windows or compatibility issue. But I'm back up and running. I think it I could have restored my bios to defaults on the first blue screen. I KNOW that I've used 4 sticks for the last few years, I must have overvolted them for them to run correctly and just forgot about it. So this begs the question, how much of a performance difference is there from going from 8Gb of RAM to 16Gb?
  3. Ok, new plan. 1) Disconnect old OCZ ssd. 2) Set Samsung 840 Pro as primary. 3) Install Win 7 on Samsung 840 Pro until validation. 4) Reboot, reinstall Win 7 again on the Samsung 840 Pro, letting Win 7 move the old files to Windows.old. 5) Boot into Win 7, update OS, remove Windows.old directory, recover from saved image. 6) Reconnect OCZ ssd, format for backup ssd/swapfile.
  4. Bios is set to ACHI. Unfortunatwly, the copy of Win 7 is an "upgrade" version. So I need to have a copy of a previous Win intall to install it.
  5. Current pc is listed in the signature. My OCZ ssd was running out of space, so I figured I buy a new Samsung 840 256gb to run as my boot drive. I installed the new Samsung ssd and tried to run the Samsung migration software. But it would error out after 2 minutes. So I thought I'd go with a fresh install of Win 7 on the Samsung 840 and use my last system restore which I completed the morning before I added the Samsung 840. So, made a fresh install of Win 7 on the Samsung and it went to the system reboot. But now mh pc hangs at the Windows Loading text - not graphic. In the end, I have two installs of Windows 7 on two different ssd's, and my pc doesn't boot to either of them. I tried unplugging the Samsung ssd to boot to the OCZ but it still hangs at the same spot. Need help fixing this darn thing. Willing to reinstall Win 7 if someone can help me out.
  6. Hope this is the right forum. I plan on taking a trip to Ireland a littler later this fall. Looked into enabling my AT&T US based phone for international calling, international roaming/data, etc. Looks to be quite expensive. I thought it would/could be more affordable to buy a prepaid/disposable cell phone when I reach Ireland. While this prepaid phone may not be up to the same quality as my Samsung Galaxy II, I hope for it to do the trick. Anyone know how much prepaid cells are in other countries (specifically in the UK or Ireland)? What's included with the prices? And what kind of phones can you buy (features - camera, data, etc.)? Thanks all!
  7. I have two routers; Rosewill RNX-N4PS IEEE 802.11b/g/n Wireless-N 2.0 Router (2T3R) Up to 300Mbps Data Rates/ WPA/WPA2 and ENCORE ENHWI-2AN3 Wireless Router With Repeater 802.11b/g/n up to 300Mbps I have a fairly large house, with some areas getting poor signal strength and receiption. I thought I'd use both routers to create a better wireless home network. BUT I have NO idea how to do this. Any and all help is GREATLY appreciated!
  8. This weekend the wife told me that our daughter wanted to start taking piano lessons, which means we should probably buy a piano. After a look through the classifieds, we thought why not check Craigslist. The one hang up I have with Craigslist is all the bad coverage it's gotten for deals gone bad. Bad press #1 Bad press #2 Bad press #3 And those were the first three links after googling "craigslist shooting". I konw the basics, meet in daylight, meet at a crowded location, give the seller/buyer contact information to a friend (or possibly the ad). But does anyone have a positive experience with Craigslist? And it might be difficult to have the seller bring an upright piano to a shopping mall so we can purchase it from them.
  9. My current mobo doesn't support AMD FX cpu's (at least Gigabyte hasn't released a BIOS compatible for the AM3+ cpus), which is why I'm looking at a new mobo.
  10. I'd like to buy the 990/970 mobo now, add another 460GTX in 3-4 months to SLI (if I can score a 990 I can keep my 240GT as a dedicated Physx card), then drop in an FX X8 sometime in the fall. Or If I score a Phenom II X6, I use it with my current rig until I upgrade the entire computer in 18+ months.
  11. Looking at making an upgrade, I would like an AM3+ mobo with the latest AMD Northbridge (990FX, 990X or 970 - doesn't matter, just need 2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 slots (x16, x4 is fine)), OR Looking for an AMD Phenom II X6 that will fit into my current Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H mobo. Prices I'm willing to pay depend on the hardware being offered. So, post here, pm or email what you have.
  12. I'd look into a Samsung 830 SSD, I don't think they've hitting the distribution chain as of yet - but Anandtech reviewed one a week or two back. The Samsung drives don't seem to have the reliability issues that the OCZ (and the others that use the SandForce controller) drives have had.
  13. I know you asked about monitors, but I can't help myself - if I were you I'd jump all over the Antec High Current Gamer Series HCG-750 750W 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply. I've always liked Samsung LCD's, but I recently purchased an ASUS for my parents which I was very impressed with.
