The Thermal Paste is some generic silver paste I bought from Fry's. I don't know it it really has silver in it or not but I think I better just get it as clean as possible.

I accidentally put too much thermal compond on my AMD 64 CPU and it slopped over the side onto the motherboard when I attached the heat sink I got most of the compound cleaned off of the motherboard but is there a way to clean the last bit off? Or will that last little bit that is on the motherboard hurt anything? I don't want to try cleaning the compund off if I am going to do more damage. My motherboard is an ASUS K8V SE Deluxe.

I have tried two settings 169X13 and 133X16.5 and I seem to have the same problem with both settings.

Hi guys, I am currently running an Asus A7V8X motherboard with an AMD XP2400+ processor and 1 GB of PC2700 ram. The video card is NVidia FX 5900SE. Everything runs great except when I overclock my processor up to 2.2 MHz. At the higher speed my computer seems to run fine until I try to run 3DMark. At that point the program starts running and will either hang or the computer will restart itself. If I upgrade my memory to PC3200 will this help me out with this problem or am I just wasting my money? Thanks in advance for any help you can offer

It's mostly gaming where I am going to be pushing any limits. What video card do you suggest? I'm don't want to spend $450.00 on a card, my wife might divorce me The two monitors got me into enough hot water! She just doesn't understand why I need TWO screens! Isn't it obvious that everyone needs multiple monitors? What about using DVI input for one and S Video for the other monitor? Just so you know I'm still kind of a die hard NVidia guy. I like their multi monitor drivers but mostly it's because I bought shares of their stock a few years ago and I want those shares to go up! I would like to stay in the $200.00 range at get something that would be a noticible difference from the video card I currently have.

Thanks for the tip! Unfortunately it didn't make a difference so I'm back to square one. Does anyone think it could be a problem with "Active Desktop" being enabled? If it is, how do I disable 'Active Decktop' in Win XP? I tried reinstalling Win XP to see if that would clear up the problem and it did, the background shows through my icons. But now when I boot my computer I have to choose which version of Win XP I want to run. Is there a way to delete my previous version so I don't have to make the choice everytime I boot up? I realize this might be a new topic but it is the continuation of my problem. Thanks in advance for any tips or suggestions you may have.

I am currently running an AMD XP 2400+ CPU in my ASUS A7V8X motherboard. Can anyone tell me what is the fastest processor I can install in my motherboard? Asus' website says up to 2.4Ghz but I don't know what that coresponds to in AMD talk. Also will I see any difference if I upgrade my processor? I don't want to upgrade my motherboard if I don't have to. Thanks for the comments! Does anyone know if dual DVI will start becoming more common? There aren't a lot of options right now but I would hate to get something and then have a whole bunch of cards come out with the dual inputs. Of course, isn't that always the problem? Getting something new for your computer and having something better come out the next day!

I currently have a GeForce 4 TI4400 128 MB running two 21" BENQ LCD monitors. I am considering upgrading my video card to a XFX GeForce FX 5700 Ultra 128 MB with dual DVI inputs. Will the dual DVI inputs make a difference for me or should I go with a 256 MB video card w/o DVI inputs? I don't want to waste my money if I am not going to be able to see any difference.

On my Win XP desktop the desktop icon titles used to be white and whatever wallpaper I used would be shown through. Lately the desktop icon titles have a white font with a black box. How can I change my icons so I see the icon title blended in with the wallpaper?
