  1. Bit of an update. THe printer model is an HP Deskjet 812c. The drivers for thios model are included in windows xp. I deleted the printer and reloaded it but thie problem still persisted. Upon a bit further research into the problem I have found that the problem probably lies some where in IE7. I installed Firefox on the machine and was able to print normally from there. This seems to be a problem with older HP printers and IE7. There aren't any definitive answers on the internet that I can find as to what causes this issue or a definite fix. If anyone has any more knowledge that they can share on this problem I would love to hear it.
  2. I was working on a computer today with a printer issue. I Finished cleaning out several viruses last week and a problem arose with the printer. I can print normal text from open office but when i try to print a web page instead of printing what is on the screen I get the HTML and JavaScript source. I have tried updating the printer drivers to no avail. The machine and the printer are both fairly old systems (early P4). The computer is running windows XP Home SP2 but otherwise fully up to date. The browser I was using was Internet Explorer 7 and the printer was a Hewlett Packard (don't know the model number).
  3. A friend of mine is a semi-professional photographer. He recently accidentally deleted some of his pictures from his portable hard drive. I was able to recover them with data recovery software but now some of his pictures are messed up. Most of his pictures are saved in jpg format but some of the messed eup ones are in jpeg format. I don't know if there is a difference but I do know that the ones in jpeg format are much smaller than they should be. Most of his pictures are over 1000X1000 pixels. The messed up ones are only 160X120 pixels. They also don't have any of the data about the photo like what kind of camera it was taken with and such. I'm wondering if there is a way to get the messed up pictures back to the way they used to be. Thank you for any help as we need to get these pictures to the customer as soon as possible.
  4. You could always just take any sata cable and put some UV orange sleeving on them.
  5. Can a mod please move this to the System Builds area, maybe I can get a reply there. Thank you.
  6. I would suggest against the MSI motherboard as I have had nothing but trouble with the ones I have had. If you want a quad-core Microcenter has one for $199 Link. Otherwise go with the E8400. As For the mobo I would suggesst the 750i. It's cheaper than the 780 and I think the layout is better, plus it has solid capacitors. You really don't need the 780 unless your going to do tri-sli. If you're going to do vista you really should go with 4 gigs of memory as it is one hell of a memory hog. Just my $0.02 though.
  7. Ever since I can remember using a computer My family has had the old push button surge protectors. They were the ones that you could turn individual components on and off by hitting a switch on the surge protector. An example of one can be found here. I have an idea of a mod in mind that uses the surge protector part of this but changing out the switches for military style switches and building some kind of case for it. If anyone knows where I could get just the surge protector board peice of this I would greatly appreciate it.
  8. I'm rebuilding my game server and am a bit confused on the most economical way to do it. I already have some parts that will cary over from the last machine, case, disk drives etc. I'm looking at buying a new cpu, mobo, and memory. I was thinking I would go with AMD since they seem to be the cheapest right now. Parts list so far: CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000 Would I benefit any from spending the extra money on an opteron or would this be ok? Memory: A-DATA 4GB PC6400 cas4 PSU: Thermaltake 430W Mobo: This is where I am having trouble. I don't know much about AMD So a suggestion in this department would be very helpful. I am leaning more towards an AMD chipset since most of them have integrated graphics. I'm trying to keep the mobo under $100 preferably under $80 if possible. I will be running Linux and mostly A counter-strike server but it may also do double duty for Unreal tournament hence the dual core. I will also be doing some web server testing for a friend of mine. I welcome any suggestions and appreciate any and all help.
  9. As far as I know crossfire and sli are pretty much the same thing. It seems to be a case of change the name to protect the innocent to me. I think there is a way to make sli work on more than one monitor but I have no idea how to do it. Opinions differ as to whether nvidia or ATI are better but most of the numbers I have seen say go for nvidia still. If I'm wrong about the sli crossfire bit someone please correct me.
  10. The nvidia 680i is still a good option as far as mobos go as well if your looking for sli possiblities. A friend of mine runs a q6600 @ 3.2ghz on good air without problems. If you get one just make sure it is the A1 revision as the AR had some problems with overclocking the quads beyond a certain point.
  11. That had not come up for me in my search of newegg for some reason. Thank you. Does anybody know if it is possible to get the back plate thing (sorry don't remember it's proper name right now) for the mobo suggested in the last post. ASrock does not appear to be much in the way of helpfulness in the tech support department. The only phone number they provide is for thier marketing department and they say they will only talk to distributors about problems. Any more help would be greatly appreciated. (even if you can only tell me the right name of the part I am looking for.)
  12. I'm trying to put together a very cheap computer for a friend of mine with almost no money. I am using some of my spare parts but still need to find a few things that I either no longer have or have bricked somehow. So far the sysstem specs are as follows: Intel Pentium 4 2.8 ghz i believe 1gb ddr400 memory ATI X1600 pro AGP generic psu I'm kinda running low on spare parts because I've already built several of these charity case comps for friends. So here is my delima. I need a motherboard that supports LGA 775 800fsb, ddr400, and AGP. It doesn't need to have SATA but does need to have 2 IDE ports if possible. I'm working on a budget of only about $60 so that makes the ones Newegg has to offer out of the question. I don't need much power or anything special as they only surf the web and do some word processing. They are thinking about getting their kids WOW account reinstated for their birthday which is why so much graphics power. If any one has an idea of how to manage this or a place that sells 533fsb Pentiums for cheap I would be greatly appreciative. Thank you in advance.
  13. On the subject of who first did modular power supplies these guys claim they were the first to make a modular power supply. And in the defense of Ultra, yes they have made and still do make some crappy power supplies, but the one in my computer has given me absolutely no problems whatsoever and I have built 5 other systems including a server that is run 24/7 that have had absolutely no problems. On the other hand I have never been very trusting of most modular power supplies anyway since they add another connection and point of failure in the mix. I can't see that you can get as good of a power source with the extra connection in there as you would if the connections were attached straight to the source.
  14. I am due to go to a lan party later tonight but if I don't get my lan issues fixed I'm going to be useless. My problem is that no matter what i try I can't seem to connect to my LAN. I have tried to unload my driver and load in a new one but Windows won't allow me to uninstall the drivers. Every time I try this I end up with a new number after my network adapter name as in Local area connection #. I am up to Local Area Connection 7! I tried turning off my onboard lan and installing a seperate card and that is when 7 showed up. I'm not saying that I have 7 different connection possibilties, there is only one but it is Local Area Connection 7. I only installed this mobo yesterday when my 680 died on me. my new mobo is a Gigabyte 965P-DS3. I only bought it because it was only $60 at microcenter because they wanted to get rid of staock to clear the way for P35 and X38 based mobos. I need help desperately. If anyone has suggestions as to how I can get a connection of some sort going I would desperately love to hear any of them.
  15. I'm not much help on fixing your problem but if you do decide to get a new NIC I would suggest one of the ones from intel. Not being a fan boy, I just have had good succes with their products and they seem to be reliable. If you have an open pci-express X1 port open Newegg has this which would allow you to keep your pci ports open. If you want to go cheaper or just want to use PCI then this is probably your best bet. Just my .02 though. Good luck on figuring out your issue.
