Braegnok Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 (edited) That's strange it's a Google Ad,.. I clicked the [X] button in upper right hand corner and pop-up goes full screen or you can delete it,.. after clicking remove/delete several times,..it's instantly back next time I change pages. Seems there is no way to opt-out or remove in the Ads settings,.. is Google running Ads based on user profiles ,.. so OCC members see different ads based on there individual profile? Fight Game Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 this is a common problem that happens after repeatedly searching for male reviewers
kyfire Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 (edited) I'm pretty sure the ads are based on each user's priors Google search history and sites visited. I see mostly computer and auto related ads......both things I have searched for and sites I've visited. BTW...Google is your friend....or at least knows you better than you're best friend! RHKCommander959 Posted July 16, 2014 Posted July 16, 2014 Browse in private mode or clear history/cookies... AFAIK it is based on that data (history/cookies) that the ads are targeted to your... interests. Thus the term targeted advertising. Right now I've even had amazon ads with things I've recently searched for. Further example, though I didn't read the full article: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=130349989 Firefox has private browsing, chrome incognito, internet explorer inprivate browsing. Google tracks pretty much everything too, even on youtube. Theres some supposedly safer search engines now such as duckduckgo.com. Waco Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 If the ad chosen is based off your google search history, why did my ad's always show sites for Trannies? I never searched for anything like that . . . . OT though, stuff like that is why I clear my history with each exit. I don't like the idea of being pushed products though sometimes during a session, if something cool pops up like an ad for a new HSF from a manufacturer I like, I'll usually click it just for spec's cause that's about all the reading I do of late. Clearing your history does nothing to get rid of targeted ads...
