  1. Actually I'm going for the Antec case, sorry for the typo (just a silly copy/paste), Lian Li's are still a bit too pricy... As for the DVD drives, I prefer to have two as I tend to always leave a disc of the game I play in the drive at all moment and use the second drive when i need to, I got used to doing that, just a personnal preference... I'm not really familiar with SATA connections, I know the data transfer rates are higher than USB but what are the advantages when it comes to a dvd burners, aren't the "normal" ones fast enough? (Not that much fussed about the price when it comes to the CPU heatskin so I'll gess I'll stick with this one, unless you have a better one in mind in terms or performance/value for money)
  2. Right! That would be my final config, just need the go ahead now Is there anything you would change/add/remove ? Casing - 1 - Lian Li Antec Full Tower Twelve Hundred Blk Motherboard - 1 - ASUS P5Q Premium Processor - 1 - INTEL Core 2 Quad Q9550 Processor Fan/Cooling - 1 - ASUS Triton 78 RAM - 2 - Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C5 Graphics Card - 1 - Sapphire HD 4870 X2 Power Supply - 1 - ANTEC 850 Signature Hard Drive - 1 - Western Digital Velociraptor 300GB SATA HD Monitor - 1 - ACER P243Wd Sound Card - 1 - Asus Xonar DX DVD Drive - 2 - LG GSA-H55N security-enhanced DVD writer OS - 1 - Windows Vista Home Premium Input Devices and Peripherals - 1 - OCZ Dominatrix Laser Gaming Mouse - 1 - RAZER Tarantula Keyboard - 1 - RAZER Destructor Mouse Pad CPU_Config.bmp
  3. Arf, that is quite an embarassing mistake... Thanks pkilway for pointing it I quite like the idea of being able one day to upgrade my RAM to 16GB, so my heart would want to stick with this motherboardand switch to either 2x Sapphire HD4870 in CF or a single Sapphire HD4870X2. Then again the Palit 9800GX2 seems like the best choice in terms of performance/value (See Video Card Roundup - September 2008), so If I were to choose the NVidia solution for my Gfx Card what Motherboard would you people choose?
  4. Thanks for the input Comp Dude2! Concerning the screen, I'm still undecided as to which I'm gonna go for, but it will definitely be at least a 22", maybe a 24" if the image quality is not lessened, but at the moment my heart is leaning towards the Dell 22'' E228WFP, I might consider the 24" if the prices go down before Christmas. I haven't done enough research for the screen so this is just temporary. So far my build would be as follow: Case: Lian Li Antec Full Tower 1200 Mobo: ASUS P5Q Premium CPU: INTEL Core 2 Quad Q9550 CPU Cooling: Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme RAM: Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C5 (8GB DDR2, I need it for CAD Design) GFX Card: 2x Palit GTX280 in SLI (might not be useful yet, but I want to treat myself cause I've worked hard for it ) PSU: ANTEC 850 Signature Hard Drive: WD Velociraptor 300GB Sound Card: Asus Xonar DX Any other opinions, especially concerning the PSU and CPU Fan?
  5. In response to philbrown23, I'm not sure what you're on about, if Mr. Google's right those chips won't arrive before late2009/early2010 and I don't think my AMD Athlon 3500+ will be able to wait until then, but I'll get back to you in a couple of years promise! Now, The Smith, your remark on the CPU is well noted, as for the Gfx Cards I was planning on buying 2 Palit GTX280 or 2 Sapphire HD 4870X2 whichever combo would be compatible with my motherboard. Was that helpful?
  6. Hi all, First of all, some info on myself. I know a little bit about how computers are build and what needs to go in these big boxes, but when it becomes a bit to technical then my head starts to spin as I see the amount of info on the web. Too many websites, too many reviews (biased or authentic?) and then I found you, OCC... NICE! I love the website, very active community, constantly updated content, super reviews but anyway, enough with the boring crap. I've been planning on building my first computer for a while now, and I really want a bad . machine (mainly for gaming). My (sad) problem is, I'm already stuck when it comes to select a combo mobo/CPU/RAM, my intitial ideas were the following but I don't know which would be more futureproof; any comments are welcome: Config 1: Mobo: ASUS P5Q Premium (Upgradable to 16GB DDR2) CPU: INTEL Core 2 Extreme Quad 9650 RAM: Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C5 (8GB Total) Config 2: Mobo: EVGA nForce 790i Ultra SLI Motherboard ("Limited" to 8GB DDR3) CPU: INTEL Core 2 Extreme Quad 9650 RAM: Corsair TWIN3X4G1600C9DHX (4GB at first) Now in term on futureproofness (this word probably does not exist but I have an excuse, I'm french...), is it more viable to go for a mobo that support DDR3 but is maxed at 8GB or to go slower but bigger with 16GB of DDR2? Also, I'm aware about the ongoing "fight" between Dual-Core and Quad-Core believers, but isn't it better to prepare for games that will exploit the Quad-Core capacities? Finally, if you think about a better combination of mobo/CPU/RAM please let me know I'm all ears!!!!
