New build:

ASROCK Z87 Extreme4
Intel I7-4770K (Delidded) @ 4.5Ghz @1.29V
Thermaltake Water 3.0 Pro Liquid Cooler
Thermaltake Toughpower 1200W PSU
G.Skill PC3-14900 16 GB (8GB x 2) 1866 MHz DDR3 Memory
Samsung 840 Pro SSD 128GB, 256GB
Zotac GeForce GTX 770 AMPed! Edition
Corsair Carbide 200R Case

At one point I was running 4.6Ghz, but not 100% stable, going to learn what I can and see what improvements I can make but happy if I can't go past my current OC.

Hi all, and hope to learn lots!

Just FYI, Haswell are pretty finicky at overclocking. For the best overclocks, you would have had to look up batch numbers from other people to see how well they overclocked before purchasing.

With haswell even that's not a guarantee!  My chip that looked like it should have been good was a 4.5Ghz dog that's much happier running 4.4Ghz.

OP Pretty nice system there!

You and me both black,

My trusty i7-980 (non-x) doesn't show sign of getting old, I don't even need it to be overclocked to enjoy blazing fast operations. Even the Core 2 quad is fast enough for any mainstream applications. I also believe your 780 is not bottlenecked by yor W3670.

To OP, the 4770K, as the 4790K, they tend to reach a wall (even delidded) where they need a lot of voltage for small frequency increase. You can look into the 4790k review on OCC, where CCokeman tells a bit about his experience. You might have a similar one.

Yeah, my previous computer was doing fine, but I had a GeForce 295 and a Intel DX58SO mobo and alot of my parts were discontinued. So I upgraded since I wanted somewhat newer hardware and also I got a great deal on the cpu, got it for only $100 (special work related promo) and I also got the water cooler free, so that was all I needed as enough excuse to build a new rig. Also I handed down my old PC to my bro, so he could have something decent.

Thank you for all the responses and input so far.

^^^I will say that my core 2 quad was the weak link in my system years ago (I had a Q6600 then I went to a AMD X6 after) and that was bottlenecking my 7950 I think I had at the time. Although the i7s (even without OC) are the way to go right now. If he had a core 2 quad, I would recommend the upgrade.
