  2. Hello Steven T, Im not sure if it will help, but I've only ever got the "driver irq not less or equal" bsod when I had a mobo with faulty internal network card. I went into the bios and disabled it and the problem went away. Try to disable each and every integrated item on the motherboard one at a time (sound card, usb hub, etc) and do the install. If it still locks up during install, go back and enable it, and move on to the next item. It's only a work around, but something to try for troubleshooting. Select NO Plug n Play OS in the bios, and try the install if it doesn't work select PNP OS and try the install (basically allows bios or windows assign irq's and system resources) just a few more things to try...
  3. I used to run AMD because their processors WERE cheaply priced and they WERE moddable, before they got smart and locked em up. Now that the prices are pretty comparable and it seems the only thing you can mod are board related items (voltage, bios, etc). I made my current choice (Intel) solely on performance as it stood when I bought it. If AMD had been leading the race, I would have stuck with them. (All summer I was putting a price list together which included a M2N32-SLI deluxe but changed when I started to read the reviews on C2D...
  4. I believe the temp on my system stays pretty low because of the case. I use the Antec 900 Advanced Gaming Case. It's nice because you can control the flow of air over the motherboard by setting the fan speeds to accomodate what you want. I run the box at a slight positive air pressure (ie. intake fans at a little higher speed than exhaust). Also, the top 200mm fan is exactly above the CPU, so I actually have my Zalman 9700 pointed up to exhaust the heated air out the top. I usually run the system with the side panel on ( to limit dust) but if I take it off the board temp rises a bit and the CPU drops a little lower. But to stay on topic, the main thing with this board is to have some active cooling on the NB and a really well ventilated case.
  5. That looks really good... you have to remember that I'm running the Vcore at about 1.6V and overclocked to 3.44GHz and that's why I'm around 55C full load. Also, you have to select "small fft's" (that is the stability standard for overclocking your CPU). If your system can run this for at least 8 hours it's probably stable (some run it for 24 or 48 hours)... Your're temps will probably increase quite a bit... Yours looks like it may have some really good potential...
  6. Timoty, I think Prime95 or the latest version of Orthos (will load both cores automatically) is still the standard for stability testing. And sorry about the info in the last post, I was refering to the P5N32-E SLI board....
  7. I don't doubt you for a second Timoty, especially running only one instance of Prime95, but you are only running one core. If you run two instances of Prime at small fft's, you'll be running max wattage. I have the same processor / motherboard combo as you with Zalman 9700 HSF and AS 5, it will idle around 28-29C and run loaded at around 56 - 60C. Mind you, I have seen some really cool things ppl are doing with this combination, like undervolting and being able to overclock to 3.8GHz on air. Mine can't <_< , but maybe yours can... The NB runs really hot, (some worse than others) I would suggest active cooling on that HS if you are going to overvolt the NB to get higher overclock speeds. I have an Antec 900 case that has a 120mm fan on the side panel that happens to be pointing right at the NB HS. MB temp, as shown by nVidia MonitorView, is at about 28 - 30C idle. At idle it seems to stay a little higher than the processor.
  8. My 2 cents... I am really impressed with the quality and support you get from eVGA. I haven't been treated better by any other company. They respond quickly to questions and put out updates faster than alot of other manufacturers. I have the eVGA 8800GTX and am very happy with it. It's also nice to know that overclocking won't void the warranty, I've had mine up to 661/2022 running stable. I have the Asus P5N32-E 680i motherboard and it seems to me to be a really good overclocker. I can stabilize it enough to run at 3.6GHz on air, and run 3DMark06 (12597). I don't know if its just luck but I haven't run into any of the problems that some have had with this chipset. The worst one for me was the voltage droop that Asus is famous for, but in a recent bios update it seems to have been reduced.

  10. I think you might want to try lower multiplier and higher frequency first. my 1800+ is running at a multi of 9.5 and fsb of ~183Mhz. I get better performance out of higher freq. I don't like to run it too hot so I keep it to about 45 C air cooled.
  11. Has anyone run an AMD 1800+ at over 184 Mhz fsb? I might be able to except that my mobo doesn't allow me to: A. divide the AGP frequency any further (74 Mhz seems to be top freq that I can run it), (or maybe I don't know how to use the dividers?) B. choose a 8.5, 8, 7.5 multi In the bios, the PCI/AGP dividers are labelled PLL 16, 20, 24... etc. Any suggestions
  12. I have almost the same system as you do and I had the same problems that you did when I first got it. Here's my spec... System Info Version: 2.2 Operating System: Microsoft Windows 98 Processor: AMD AMD Athlon @ 1.71 GHz Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200 with AGP8X Total Physical Memory: 256 MB Free Physical Memory: 73.39 MB Motherboard Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. Motherboard Model: GA-7VAXP Problem 1: low 3dmark 2001 benchmark... I used to get around 6000 maybe 7000 on a good day. solution: in bios press "cntrl-F1" to enable advanced memory timings. set first setting to "ultra" and adjust timings to suit your system. the lower the better. You have ddr400 there is an option for setting this type of ram. You'll have to play with it a bit to get the most out of this board. I was going to throw it in the garbage until I found these settings. Now I post about a low 12000 on 3dmark 2001SE. Also get the latest F11 bios from lumberjacker. It has some really cool extra's. Try the top performance settings with no overclocking. If you have error correcting ram you should be able to get some wicked marks without over clocking. After unlocking my AMD 1800+ I run it at 180fsb @ 1709Mhz with no problems and no increased voltage to stabilize.
  13. Ive got a Gigabyte GA-7VAX with an AMD 1800+ CPU which I've unlocked, but now I don't have any half multipliers (ie 11.5, 12.5, etc), Did I do something wrong in the unlucking process??? Any suggestions?
