  1. ok ty.. Originally, yes it had heatsinks on the RAM and vgpu mainly because the GeForce cards are generally used for gaming and whatnot. So, yea I guess I could get away with leaving them off for a non-gaming station.
  2. took me about 13 hrs on hardest difficulty level the second time i beat it. the first time i played it on normal and it took me about 22 hrs b/c i messed around with the physics engine a lot.
  3. I have an old GeForce3 TI-500 (64mb) and I'm planning on using it in another computer such as a test station or a file server. So do you think cooling the video RAM would be as important? I think if I slap my Iceberq4 vgpu cooler on it would be just fine..tell me otherwise.
  4. Dude that's an awesome link! I haven't been able to do any studies yet but maybe after I get my degree I'll have some time to put into that...in the meantime it's just scribble scribble Again, thanks for posting that.
  5. Man, I don't think servers really count...that's like cheating Defineitely an MSI or Abit board, they're both good for OC'ing. Hell, maybe even a Tyan with a 3.2GHz Opteron setup -Max out the RAM, whatever the capacity (16 GB of DDR400 for the Tyan) -Definitely SCSI drives -3DLABS WILDCAT REALIZM 800 512MB GDDR3 PCIE 2XDVI W/VGA ADAPTER PC DUAL VPU -Chieftec Server case and the reason I pick a Chieftec is it's not a pre-manufactured modded case and is open for plenty of mods. -ENERMAX EG851AX-VH 660W PSU -All of course cooled by a compressor
  6. ahh..hmmm.. Hey this is a nice project. Remember, every project needs a good plan so since you're short on cash start doodling and try to figure out your wiring scheme..that's usually the monster that needs tackling. I don't have any old stuff, so good luck, mate.
  7. man that's a sweet concept.. I think it would be cool to get a retro server case and make a phatty rig outta it. And also that turbo bitton might be of some use, however, in a different way. *me thinks*
  8. I'm interested in creating a wire management system kind of like yours, fueler. I would like to know the general rule you used. I see that you used terminal strips for your system as well as forked ends for splitting your PSU. I guess the real question is: how were you able to determine what each line could hold in terms of load/draw? did you use the basic physics/electrical equations for that process? I think it would be a great tutorial for wire management since a lot of people are missing the concept of "airflow." I have a 520W Vantec PSU so it's pretty nice and it can hold a bit. It will do for the configuration I have so far and I don't think I'll add too much more. ty
  9. I haven't been following this thread at all, but here's my two cents. It's of course all about the money. Who (which company I mean) wants to put out a brand new technology, that only really exists theoretically (correct me if I'm wrong but I have only seen papers and conferences discussing its possibilities and mathematical approaches), when there's so much more money to be "mined" or "dredged" from the silicon structure? What if it's a "dud" technology at first and that company's shareholders lose all signs of hope, therefore causing the company to crash? Do you get my drift? Am I bs'ing? possibly...
  10. yea so I updated the chipset drivers and it's all in working order. I restarted the machine after doing so. When I went into the Catalyst program the AGP mode was, to my delight, automatically set to 8X! Wooo! :-D ty guys
  11. actually...my mistake. I did NOT install the latest chipset drivers. I will do that right now and see what goes. Also, I'm downloading 3dmark05 right now as well since my last card wasn't worthy of running it. :-P 283MB download..dang this feels like the old 14.4K days since the d/l is so big. i'll just listen to some tunes while I wait
  12. --Since I flashed my BIOS, the AGP 4X/8X modes option is no longer available via BIOS preferences. Now it's controlled within WinXP with CATALYST. I did set it to 4X and 8X before flashing the BIOS. --DirectX 9.0c was installed prior to video card installation --Already installed ati cat 5.3s --Latest chipset drivers installed prior to installation of video card So wait..are you saying to uninstall DX9.0c, ATI software, and chipset drivers? or just the ATI drivers?
  13. Yea, so my ATI Radeon X850 XT just won't go into either 4X nor 8X speed modes. So far here's what I've tried: -Updated/Flashed bios -Updated Video Drivers/Software -Downloaded and installed lastest WinXP updates I've tried to switch in to 4x/8x modes by using Smartgart via Catalyst Control Center and then the system goes through a routine retart after applying the changes...then I go in to the display settings again to check it and it's back to "Off" on the "AGP Speed" Setting!!!!! My system is entirely capable of handling this video card, but I just don't know what else to do. I can still play games but it's so "bottlenecked" that I get horrible FPS. EDIT: I'm a retard.. I forgot my specs... -------------My RIG--------- ;-) --21" Samsung CRT --Aspire X-SuperAlien Case (Silver) with 6 (80mm) blue led-UV reactive case fans --Abit IC7-G (Socket 478) Motherboard --On-Board Gigabit LAN --WinXP Pro --Creative Labs' SB Audigy LS (24-bit) Sound Card --1 GB DDR400 RAM --2-40GB 7200 RPM IBM Deskstars --P4 3.2GHz (Presscott) 800 Mhz FSB (1024 KB L2 Cache) w/ CoolerMaster "Hyper 6" Heatsink --ATI Radeon X850 XT 256MB Video RAM (AGP) --Vantec Stealth 520W PS --LG DVD-ROM
