The GTX460 is suppose to compare with 5830... at $199-249(gtx460)...it wouldn't make sense to compare it with $349+(5870) which is consider a high end card while the GTX460 is midrange.

Read the review this thread is about and then you will see what we are talking about.

A GTX460 beats an HD5870 and HD5850?

Read the review for the details !

The Palit Sonic Platinum edition card is overclocked from the factory to 800Mhz on the fixed function units, 1600Mhz on the shader domain (The two are linked BTW) and 1000Mhz on the memory. The results are the results and feel free to come to VA for a first hand look!

Always the non believers!

Read the review ! Nice way to slap a manufacturer in the face! If you feel the results are bogus then come on down and see what the card can do. Why is it so hard to believe or are you just being facetious...........?

You really have to look at the clock speeds on this card to to understand that this thing packs a punch.

You can check out Stevens review over at techspot, they show the samething back and forth battle against the 5870.

As you can see the 768mb model gets beat pretty hard in some tests and it doesn't have the clock speeds that the Palit card does.

I expect to see even faster cards coming out similar to the Palit card to make it even more appealing.

Palitusa - I'd be happy to test two of the 1Gb cards in SLi for you :) Talk about a stomping of about anything on the market right now :)

Anyways, please accept our apologies for a somewhat contentious response earlier. I for one appreciate all of our manufacturers that are kind enough to loan hardware to the OCC staff for fair and unbiased reviews. Thanks a bunch.

All products we review, will be kept by us once the review is completed.

Sponsorship says otherwise. However, this makes me appreciate them even more because thats one more card they could have instead sold.

Ironically, the day of the review I looked at twitter and saw these guys talking about Frank's Editor's Choice. Never realised we were THAT big!

The funny part about all this is that consumer thought we sold this card with the heatsink VRM. It was a PR mixed up in UK Palit which cause panic here in the US/Canada(typically). We were getting bad review comment on Newegg which has no relation to why it is a bad product.

The customer promoted Sparkle reference board because he didn't think that lifetime warranty will save him from a burnt OC. :)

Here is latest one:

Pros: - Fast card

- Great overclocker (if it can stay cool)

- nice design

- in SLI, two of these cards yields a 20 percent improvement over the 500 dollar GTX 480

A breakthrough for re-igniting some long awaited price wars, pick the gtx 460 up while you can.

Cons: - No VRM heatsinks

- 2 year warranty

- not the same specifications as advertised

"1. The review is in UK which is out of Palit USA control.

2. We send to all our review in the USA medias are the one without heatsink in VRM.

3. You did not purchase the Sonic Platinum but the normal Sonic. So the review you saw are not the same because you purchase a model that is not the same with the review. "

But still, i dont see any "regional specific" warnings being displayed on any of these reviews.

Other Thoughts: I bought this card because of its review of being a "cool and quiet card" just because it stays below the required heat signatures doesn't mean its not very hot. And when a product is actually the opposite of what its being advertised as, hot and loud, its pretty disappointing to wait a week just to RMA the thing half hour after it shows up. Apparently there is a BIOS update that keeps the card cooler, and reduces the fan speed reducing noise, so at least there's that i suppose. I opted for a reference design Sparkle with Lifetime Warranty instead of two years. Im sure the Palit will perform well, perhaps better than most in this price point with adequate cooling, and wont be an issue to most users, but if your planning on overclocking the card or feel like you have been Had, i suggest a different brand.

Our response.

Manufacturer Response:Dear tj,

1. The review is in UK which is out of Palit USA control.

2. We send to all our review in the USA medias are the one without heatsink in VRM.

3. **Fact** Reference board is standard board that other manufacturer put a sticker on and call it a brand. Palit usually do not do reference board and try to innovative by having our own design.

4. You purchase GTX460 Sonic and the review you saw was Sonic Platinum. I'm not sure why you are mad when the model are different.

5. It wouldn't make sense to buy US product and complain about the UK reviews. That is why we have our own US medias/review. Below is example of how good our card is without the Heatsink VRM.

Here is the latest "EDITOR'S CHOICE" review without the VRM heatsink. It proven that you do not need the heatsink.

Hello people !

I was waiting for an answer about the Voltage controller chip on this card but, in meantime, I found it elsewhere. The controller on the Palit/Gainward short PCB GTX460 cards is the NCP5395T as posted in this review: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/nvidia-geforce-gtx-460_5.html . For now, I'll look into the soft voltmod thing for this chip. Thx again.

Gainward and Palit are seperate companies and as such, the exact specifications of the two cards will NOT be exactly the same. Palit may very well use a different Voltage controller on their card, especially given the already high clocks on it.
