Issue with Steam

Recently I've ran into an issue with Steam. When I try to run Steam I get the checking for updates screen and then about a second later I get the following error message.... Steam needs to be online to update. Please confirm your network connection and try again.

This just started out of the blue, I've uninstalled steam and reinstalled it with same results. All other programs connect fine. No changes have been done to my router (Linksys WRT54GS). My other rig doesn't have any issues connecting to Steam either only my main rig, in sig.

Yea, I checked and deleted everything relating to Steam. Here's the strange thing, I have the same issue with Origin too.  Yet U-Play works fine. I'm almost ready to do a clean install of Windows and see if that fixes it, but I really don't want to have to reinstall all my other programs.

The other thing to check is if you have any "network management" software running. Not sure what Gigabyte boards have, but on my ASUS board, "Network iControl" was enabled by default and while it didn't affect Steam, it did eff up Google searches and YouTube uploading, so I turned that off and everything was peachy.

I've been having trouble with Steam as well. I have a couple of games that worked fine a few weeks ago and today they would not. after a day of fussing with it i just started uninstalling stuff. after I un-installed handbrake and xvid it started working....LOL who'da thunk......I totally wiped steam and re-installed the problematic game and it fired right up.... that was a total waste of a day!

Fatal Error: Steam needs to be online to update,.. is most often caused by third party applications interfering with Steam.

Steam Support has a long list of programs which may interfere with Steam,.. you can try checking your startup menu and disabling any listed programs your running,.. one at a time/rebooting and launching Steam.exe from within the steam installation folder,.. and not from a pre-existing shortcut,.. before uninstalling any applications,.. till you find the program causing issues,.. it may be a recent update on a third party application causing issue,.. and simply changing settings or re-disabling app at start up will solve error message.

Good Luck,.. it's a time consuming task finding application causing error message,.. when everything was working fine and you haven't added any new programs recently,..  :yucky:
