    New Forum ??

It's neat. I like the new login system. And the forum looks cleaner somehow. EDIT: talking about coming out of the woodworks...
  2. While I am a fan of Jim Keller, I am not a fan of him developing Zen, then ultimately (through Tesla) leaving for Intel. I hope that he learns what he can, then go back to AMD. Intel has too much advantage in cash over AMD, and I worry that they'll bury AMD again.
  3. Try this link: https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/#%7B%22autoUpdate%22%3A%5B%22autoUpdate%22%5D%2C%22basemap%22%3A%22grayscale%22%2C%22feed%22%3A%2230day_m45%22%2C%22listFormat%22%3A%22default%22%2C%22mapposition%22%3A%5B%5B45.05412098425883%2C-115.87280273437499%5D%2C%5B48.71271258145237%2C-108.841552734375%5D%5D%2C%22overlays%22%3A%5B%22plates%22%5D%2C%22restrictListToMap%22%3A%5B%22restrictListToMap%22%5D%2C%22search%22%3Anull%2C%22sort%22%3A%22newest%22%2C%22timezone%22%3A%22utc%22%2C%22viewModes%22%3A%5B%22list%22%2C%22map%22%2C%22settings%22%5D%2C%22event%22%3Anull%7D I think it shows the events you were talking about. EDIT: Those will only show up for a few more days.
  4. I'm not even sure what language this is. I got this voicemail yesterday, and I have no idea of what it's supposed to be about. Can anyone at least identify what language it is, and even possibly translate it? I've attached it as a converted mp4-to-mp3. https://www.dropbox.com/s/nchj161rlwjpvb6/Voicemail.mp3?dl=0
  5. Hello Mythos. Hello everyone else. I've been gone for a long time again, this time due to work. Just popping in to say hello myself, and to see if any of the older crew is still active (2004-2008ish). Good to see new names in the forums, though. Unfortunately for me, funding for the department I was working for was cut, and my job was the first to go. Now I'm not so busy, except that I now have to find a new job. I just hope it won't take months like it did last time. I still can't believe that Verran passed away. I lost three family members in the last few years, then I get reminded of that again when I read that post. The s**t about it, and the part that I hate, is that two of them were taken by cancer, while another family member is in remission. WTF, cancer? Well, while I can't start folding again due to loss of income, hopefully soon I'll be able to rejoin the folding team. Those guys at Stanford have some work ahead of them. I'll see you guys on the flip-side.
  6. You misunderstand me. I know how to enter, I'm just not entirely sure what the contest is awarding prizes by. If all it takes is to enter and make sure that all of the blanks are properly filled to potentially win a prize, with no other considerations, then I get that. I'm just wondering if there's something I missed.
  7. What does it take to win the contest? Best hardware, or looking to upgrade? I still have the 3770k CPU that I bought back in 2012. Also, do we just put in one part that we're looking to upgrade? I'm actually looking for a new CPU + Mobo + graphics card update later this year.
  8. Hello all, I've been away for a few years. I'm finally just about a week and a half away from graduating college; It's been quite the journey. I simply haven't had time to be here like I had been in the past. For those that say that the PC or PC gaming is dying, keep in mind that technological limitations up until a few years ago had people buying PCs who wouldn't otherwise simply because tech better suited for them simply didn't exist. And if you have a PC for non-gaming uses, there's a reason to buy video games: you have a PC. Consoles were/are the opposite: you buy a console to game. Now that you can buy a phone and have it do all the same basic functions that an entry-level computer can do, phones eliminate the need to have big boxes that need to be tinkered with. For me, the rise of the smartphone was a bit of a surprise -- though I knew the tech could be shrunk, having it in your phone was something I never saw, especially with how thin they are and how powerful they are in comparison. Sometimes, when I look at my Note 4, I do feel a bit like I'm living in the future. But the effects of smartphones was not at all a surprise to me: once smaller, more mobile tech came along, people who really shouldn't be spending money on big boxes just to check their email and other non-compute-intensive activities no longer had to. The end result of this is that the PC market is shifting back to the demographics it really catered to all along: those who need PCs for their power and flexibility, and those who choose PCs for higher-end gaming. I do fully expect the PC market to stabilize, if it hasn't already. Barring, of course, effects of the economy. The end result of this, is that those who continue to use PCs outside of work, will naturally tend to be better able to work on their own computers, or have a friendly shop/friend to help bridge the knowledge gap that they may encounter if any issues arise. What Bosco said about the overclocking scene is also spot-on: while even Intel has adopted this to some degree, those who continue to do so generally could be writing articles here, rather than coming here for questions. Or just Google search the issue. If you're looking for a TL;DR, it's this: OCC hit its heyday at the right time, and was a great resource for many people. With new technology, however, and many people's needs having shifted, a new sort of obsolescence is being created for websites of this type. While we shouldn't forget the core of what this site is for, an adjustment may be needed to keep this site from becoming a semi-useful relic. The great question, then, is how? EDIT: I apologize for the wall of text. I ended up writing way more than I had intended.
  9. Already using Adblock plus + Ghostery + NoScript. I also don't frequent Russian news sites...
  10. Try this one: http://gcn.com/articles/2013/07/19/kansas-city-google-fiber-software-lending-library.aspx
  11. Just in case...(can't tell if it's sarcasm or not): And this: What? Edit: And I completely forgot to post about my own. Yeah, I don't OC my main rig anymore, but it's still enough to raise the temp in my room by several degrees by itself. Awesome in winter, as I leave the thermostat to 60 while my room gets to around 70, but sucks in summer. I either have the windows open or the AC on anytime the comp is on.
  12. I've taken this test a few times in the past. I always came out as a moderate/high INTP. The descriptions for me are very nearly spot-on, with just slight differences in a couple details, but even those are close enough.
  13. Yes, results are as expected. Once again, good job. Now my computer feels deficient. Makes me want to buy new again. Thanks for stopping by, your build is validated good. Have a nice day.
  14. Good, then your fluctuations are normal. Congratulations, you have good scores.
  15. I said I had a GTX 680 in the post I posted my scores...seems you missed it. And yes, stock, same hardware. Nothing is changed. The GPU itself is not what's causing the fluctuations, it's all the programs I have going on in the background. Same for your system. So yes, your card is fine, you just need to turn a few things off. Now stop freaking out.
