  1. Just upgraded to 32GB ram with the new i5. Now I wait for a deal on a new GPU. Also replaced my SSD while I was working on the system. Dang GPU price hikes/shortages! I can play BL3 mostly fine, but it's got me itching for a new GPU! May wait for the 4xxx or snap a 3080.
  2. Hey guys just finished the upgrades on my PC, went from a Ryzen 1600 to a i5 12400F. Everything went smooth until I tried to install the drivers for my 1080. Now note that the 1080 is the oldest piece of hardware in this system, everything else is less than a year old. When you get about 10 seconds into installing any version of the drivers it flashes an error screen (can't read it, too fast) and restarts the PC. The PC will fail to boot, screen will keep flashing a few times and just show a black screen. Nothing you can do software wise will fix this. You cannot get windows startup repair to go at all. Even trying to use a recover disk will fail. The Fix Only way I found to get back into windows is 1. reinstall windows or 2. put in a different GPU (I had another 1080 that I used) Once your back in, remove the partially install drivers with display driver uninstaller (DDU), DO NOT try again to install the game ready drivers, it will fail no matter which one you use, I tried a bunch. Instead use device manager to install to install Nvidia control panel (should be fully automatic if you wait a few minutes). Really strange issue here, never had problems with these drivers in the past, I guess new hardware never likes to play with the old. Anyway, I have been gaming on the Nvidia control panel drivers and they work 100% and are stable. Hope this helps as people upgrade there entire system, but leave in a older GPU. Took me 3 hours to figure this all out.
  3. Just a follow up, I ended up buying the i5 12400F with the Asus Prime B660-PLUS D4 LGA off Amazon for $300, the i5 is on sale. It's slightly faster than the Ryzen 5600X option and a good bit cheaper as well. I will reusing my current DDR4 ram, PSU, etc. $300 for a 50-60% boost in power is pretty sweet. Now to find a deal on a new GPU. Hoping to get the RTX 3080 for under $800.
  4. Thanks, I figure (at least I hope) prices will go down on the parts I want to upgrade to and/or new stuff will be out.
  5. Hi, Everyone! Been awhile, long time poster here. Looking to upgrade my current rig for Starfield, I was thinking about going to the Ryzen 5600x, new mobo, reuse my current ram and hopefully grab a 3080. But I am thinking to maybe hold off until closer to Starfield as I heard new RTX cards and new Ryzen chips will be releasing? Current PC specs are Ryzen 1600 16gb DDR GTX 1080 1tb SSD
  6. AMD has just released it's all-new Ryzen 3000 CPUs and it's worth noting that this release has begun impacting the older Threadripper series of CPUs because the new 3000 series has added more cores to it's CPUs causing some interesting price drops. Well, it took just one day for the Threadripper 2920X with 12 cores to drop in price. No matter how you look at it, this is good news for the consumer who needs more computing horsepower. As AMD keeps up the battle with Intel, older CPUs will go down in price; at the time of writing the 2920X was $541.47 on Amazon Prime, but the Honey extension alerted me to another Amazon seller that had them for sale for $537.98. Now that's one amazing deal for 12 cores/24 threads! Source: guru3d.com Back to original news post
  7. Amazon is no longer confining Prime Day to just one day, but instead making it 48 hours long and it begins Monday, July 15th and runs until July 16th. This will be the fifth year for Prime Day, as Amazon's version of Black Friday in the summer, just remember you need to be a Prime member to enjoy the deals, if your not, you can sign up for a free 30 day Prime Trial. Tom's Hardware has spotted some of the best deals, so see below for the links and if you see any great deals, post a link in the comments below! Amazon Echo Dot for $24.99 ($25 off) Intel 660p Series 1TB SSD for $94.99 ($115 off) Amazon Echo Input for $14.99 ($20 off, Prime members only) Samsung 860 QVO 1TB SSD for $97.99 ($32 off) Source: tomshardware.com Back to original news post
  8. Western Digital just announced that an unexpected power loss in the Yokkaichi region of Japan has devastated a factory with its joint venture partner, Toshiba Memory Corporation. The power loss, which took place on June 15 of this year, caused damage to both of the facilities where NAND is made and the tools used to make the storage products. The factory hasn’t been fully operational since the outage and will not be able to resume full production until sometime in mid-July. Western Digital said it expects flash wafer production to be cut by approximately six exabytes this year. To put this into perspective, there are roughly a 1,000 terabytes in a petabyte and a 1,000 petabytes in an exabyte. According to Sources, 6EB of storage represents roughly half of Western Digital’s quarterly NAND production. Sources also said the Yokkaichi Operations facility where the incident took place turns out around 35 percent of the world’s NAND. Source: Techspot.com Back to original news post
  9. Sabrent may not have the name recognition like Samsung or SanDisk, but it is the first to list for sale a PCIe 4.0 SSD for order on Amazon, which begins shipping in just a few days. The Sabrent Rocket PCIe 4.0 SSD conforms to the M.2 2280 form factor and NVMe 1.3 standard while the drive takes advantage of the latest PCIe 4.0 interface, which made its mainstream debut on AMD's X570 platform along with the new Ryzen CPUs. The new drive has a lengthy feature set that includes power management support for APST/ASPM/L1.2, SMART and TRIM features, advanced wear-leveling, bad block management, Error Correction Code, and over-provisioning. Lightning fast speed awaits when installing on a PCIe 4.0 x4 slot, with sequential read and write speeds up to 5,000 MB/s and 4,400 MB/s. The Rocket PCIe 4.0 M.2 SSD is now available in 1TB and 2TB capacities, with the 1TB model costing $229.99, while the 2TB model lists for $429.99. Source: Tomshardware.com Back to original news post
  10. With the Ryzen 5 3600 only a few days away, it's a tempting price point to upgrade at for only $199. I picked up my 1600 the day it was released. I just recently picked up a GTX 1080 for $300 (take that RTX series) and 16GB of ram. I want to pick up a new 1440 monitor with 144hz for Starfield/ES6 in a few years. Curious if anyone else is thinking of upgrading from 1600. Thanks
  11. During Computex 2019, Noctua finally announced its plans to update the famous D series of CPU coolers with a brand new design that is sure to improve temps for gamers and power users. The all-new coolers improve performance by adding in an extra heat pipe and utilize an asymmetrical design for improved PCIe slot clearance for larger GPUs. Love it or hate it, Noctua's highly unique beige and brown color scheme will return. The all-new D series coolers are now designed to dissipate up to 400 watts of heat, which is right in line with AMD's TR4 and SP3 cooling needs. Noctua is planning on releasing two versions of the new D series coolers, one with a single fan and one with a dual fan option. The new coolers will include a traditional multi-socket mounting kit, which will support AM4, LGA20xx, and LGA115x, as well as a dedicated TR4 model for AMD's Threadripper processors. As a bonus, the new coolers will include a tube of NT-H2 thermal compound. Noctua has yet to announce an official release date, but we expect the all-new coolers will be available by the end of the year, with pricing to be in line with the current NH-D15 and NH-D15S models. 12. Whelp, I just bought a GTX 1080 off ebay for $330 and 16GB or ram and a new set of speakers. Can't wait to gaming at ultra settings again! I think my 1600 should be fine for a few years yet?
  13. After owning an ultrawide I can never go back to regular screen again.
