the mem sticks im using i purchased the 1600mhz set but when in the modbo and up and running they were set to 1333mhz, so i changed them in the bios to the figher freq they are now. im not sure if this would count as an overclock?

hi, i have a new build and occasionally when in game (skyrim) i will get blue screen and the comp will restart after dumping files. my system is- CPU - fx-8150@stock RAM - corsair vengeance 2x4GB 1600mhz Gpu - msi 6970 @ stock cpu cooler - antec kuhler 920 1 x 120gb SSD corsair force 3 (OS boot) 1 x 1tb HDD seagate barracuda (storage) psu - ocz zx850w i dont know how to get the dump files btw. i assume there needed for a diagnosis and fix

i tried driver and catalyst but to no avail. i RMA'd to scan and they have found it defective "Crashed Heaven benchmark, takes 30mins or so". now its just waiting for a replacement. unfortunately i cannot find the 6970 lightning anywhere on the site so dont think they have it in stock any more

have just built my new rig with a msi 6970 lightning in. however when i try to play game i get to past the into (with the publishers) and then it freezes and locks up the computer with a black screen that will not shift, i have to restart the rig. i have all the newest drivers and there are no old drivers clashing as this was a completely new build from scratch so they are the only ones present. it first started when i tried to play skyrim and now i have RUSE installed it is doig it with that as well but with vertical lines. Any help will be much appriciated. i have contacted scan (where i got the card from) as i noticed when first opening the card that there were marks on one of the cooling fans and there was also a mark on the fan surround as well, making me think that they gave me a reconditioned one on the sly.

it turns out that i cannot disable c1 state in my bios, so thats the end of that chapter. ocz are now asking where i got it from and when. they have not yet replied back to me from that. i have flipped the psu over so fan is at the bottom however that has not made a difference at all. Tjj226_Angel - cannot really afford to buy corsair at the moment (i am a poor student lol). i have a feeling that ocz will get back to me and recommend RMA as that is the only reason i think that they would have to ask where i got it from.

no i havent tried that yet. that was going to be my next step however have just heard back from ocz and they said try to "deactivate the C1 State in BIOS" and test again. not sure what one of them is.

well i sent an email to ocz for help and they came back asking to record the sound. i said it wasnt really possible and it just sounds like a fan spinning up to its max (silly ocz person). im waiting for them to get back to me again via email and i shall see what they say. i did read a few reviews on the psu and they compared it to a corsair (i think TX 750w or something like that) and it came around the same for performance, reliability, ripple ect. i am looking at getting a new gpu (msi 6970) soon as the one im using is one that my m8 upgraded from so im using it just for a while. maybe it is just the gpu heating it and making the temp sensor trip. it is weird how it does not quieten down. i have just done an hour on skyrim and it hasnt spun up.

do you think if i swaped it for another one from ocz that it would be different, maybe i just got a faulty thermal sensor? i ran a gpu stress tester this morning when the system was cold having been left all night. i jacked the gpu fan to 100% and the temp did not get above 65c and the psu did not rev up to max. after 10 mins of this i changed the gpu fan to auto on afterburner and as soon as the temp hit around 70c the psu fan started reving up. i find it odd how it does not rev back down again after going up, even if the case goes cold again through normal use. im now running the gpu at idle with fan 100% at 35c and the psu is still going nutts. thanks for fast replies btw

just got hold of corsair carbide 500r and an ocz zt 750w modular psu and transferred my system over to it. everything is fine until i play a game for a while. the fan on the psu ramps up and is incredibly loud and can hear it above all else (have to turn speakers up). also it does not spin back down after load, just stays at a high rpm and loud until i shut down the system. have ran a stress test on my gpu (ati 4890) and the fan again kicks in. i have a feeling it is the rise in temp of the gpu as the fan on the psu kicks in at around 70c on the gpu everytime. would this be a good guess or not? any ideas would be helpful

im looking at upgrading my gpu to a 6870 (pretty much what my budget can take), im looking at the xfx 6870 2gb version over the standatd 6870 or the 6870 oc as i am looking at keeping it for a while and am thinking that the 2gb would benefit me in the future more. is this a sound theory or would it just be better to go for a standard 1gb 6870 with better cooling? also i need to upgrade my psu to accommodate the gpu and want a modular 750w so i will not have to spend more at a later date when i upgrade more. can anyone suggest any sub £100 mark?

im at uni and dont have the boot cd with me (vista) but will hopefully have it soon.

woke up this morning and my system decided not to boot. it cannot get to windows and throws up a message saying "A Disk Read Error Occured. Press CTRL ALT DEL to restart". i have restarted countless times, plugged and re-plugged everything but to no avail. any help would be greatly appreciated.
