  1. I've used two MCP-655's for about 8-months now with no problems.
  2. If this is true for a res, ANY res seemingly, then it's just as true for watercooling in general. Any part of a water-cooler "can" spring a leak, or otherwise disappoint you.
  3. Short or long, within reason, it doesn't matter. It's all about having enough surface area, and motive force, to dissipate the thermal energy accumulated in your loop. If someone wants to spend their time trying to cut the shortest possible runs then fine. However, the process simply isn't going to guarantee inherently lower temps. I prefer generous runs and my temps are sterling.
  4. Very nice install watsonte, clean and well thought out.
  5. Nothing works as well as simple water for thermal transfer. Even if I chose to believe a second-testimonial for the efficacies of milk, which I frankly don’t, why in the world would ANYONE select a coolant that had to be changed every "couple of days" and would quickly represent a bio-hazard?
  6. I don't have a problem with people dumping anything they want in their loops, but trying to make this dumb practice seem "cool" to new guys is just wrong. OP: Try some Hydrx. It works great, doesn't alter waters naturally ability to pick up and transport heat, doesn't include a bunch of crap that does nothing to enhance water-cooling and there's no guess work about ratios.
  7. It's a lot easier than trying to find molex's or chance blowing fan headers. You're going to love it.
  8. Have you ever actually seen a NV78? By that I mean picked one up and looked at it. They're no more restrictive than any other block in their category. All it is an intake, a track, a non-aggressive impingment structure situated in an expanded channel then another track that leads to an exhaust port. I've got TWO of them and my loop rates 1.5GPM. OP: From what I've read there's no easy answer to what size tubing one should use, within reason. Cathar says that we're (meaning American's) too fixated on 1/2 inch. Seeing some of the 3/8 inch euro FRU's, it's SEEMS pretty obvious that as long as your blocks are designed for 3/8 you'll do just fine. So I guess the reasoning would be that it depends. Personally I prefer 1/2.
  9. Nope, I haven't done that for a while. Fan controllers make such things easier.
  10. It tastes like Nyquil, you ain't missing nothing. OT: I've used Hydrx for the past 6-months. No problems, no growth and no precipitates (a first). Since I knew that the Storm was prone to clogging I didn't want to take a chance by tossing in something with ingredients that have no purpose in water-cooling. Edit: Hydrx is UV green, for the Borg approach.
  11. No one's saying that you have to trust your sensors. However, insisting that everyone follow your lead is, again, counter-productive. BTW, I don't recall anyone saying that it's possible to water-cool at or below ambient. You're addressing statements that simply haven't been made. And yes, people make grandiose, sweeping statements on internet ALL the time without a "shred of evidence." Worse still, those same statements are propagated like a virus. So, you saying "I love it!" doesn't address reality while at that same time makes you look like no one can safely disagree with you without being bullied and/or ridiculed. This WOULD be funny, if it wasn't so utterly usless to the idea of "community." In short, if you don't like/can't handle the topic at hand, why not just ignore the thread? I can only speak for myself in this, but I don’t come here to be fussed at by people who think they know more about my machine than I do.
  12. I've heard the same thing about every motherboard at one time or another when the subject of temps come up. "Those things are inaccurate, it can't possibly be true, you can't trust this or that, etc...." TBH, I think we all know that people say lots of things in forums without a shred of evidence. Just because someone says something in a forum doesn't make it true. My point was twofold: I find it easier to exist in places like this if I don't waste my time visiting other people's motives, and that I KNOW my rig. It simply isn't possible for someone to tell me with certainty what my temps are or can be. Now, as far as temps being important; that's an individual choice. If I, or anyone else for that matter, enjoy knowingtalking about my temps, that's fine, or it should be at least. For one person to say the "we" must look at things a certain way doesn't make for anything but wasted attempt at crowd-control.
  13. There more than one way to verify operational temps, and it's no coincedence that coolant exits my rad at just about ambient during idle. Forgive me for saying this, being new here, but I'm no where near new to water-cooling or PC's. We need to believe each other for the sake of community if for no other reason. If someone says that they own 2x6800 GT's, it would be counter-productive for me to say otherwise, unless I have some DIRECT reason to believe otherwise. Temps fall well within this trust-because-you-can't-directly-verify category as well. I hope I didn't offend anyone by saying this, but I don't accuse other people of falsifications lightly, so it isn't easy for me accept this sort of behavior directed at me. If a mod should happen to see this and think that I'm being too stern, just PM me and I won't post here anymore.
  14. Then you won't believe my temps either. My rig idles at just above room ambient, about 1c, and I haven't seen it break 4c above at full load.
  15. Depending on your room ambient, these temps fall well within the sweet spot.
