  1. That either, touching grounded elements frequently during building and also not touching any conections of all the parts, even watching out what clothes to ware. <_< Probably it's my bad 'luck of the daw'. But then again there's more ppl like me.
  2. I think bosco and many other know how i feel bout asux. And for the electric part, i've studied for electrician, so i doubt it that i wouldn't tripple check every conection or isolation. bout the board: led is on, fans spin, drives run, system gets little warm...it does everything normal but just gives no screen. Btw every board was in the factory-packed plastic bag that you have to cut open.
  3. In fact not, they're one of the biggest stores in germany where ppl drive hours to go to because of the quantity of brands they sell and there huge stock, not forgetting the prices. Store opens at 9 and at 9.30 my friend was customer 98 and ppl don't go there to buy only a fan or so. It's just depressing that everytime I want the best board or so, i end up with brand new dead junk. And it was everytime with Asus. I kept my faith in them for several times and only 1 time it worked out. But problems bring research, and research showed a lot ASUS-problems. Many 'dead from the box' stories. I think it's a shame for a big name like ASUS. Ok, if you have an ASUS-board working, it's probably the best you've ever had, but I just get scared now thinking bout buying one of them again. What is ESD? ...and yes standoffs are used. I've build systems from zero for a dozen of times, never had a problem caused by building or unsecure working. I'm a real pain in the butt bout doing everything right and using the right tools en so
  4. Yep ASUX from now on. Not saying they make bad stuff, it's just that you have to be very lucky to have one working. I've had my own stories with 3 dead A7N8X Deluxes, just like several other ppl here... but now there's another dead one right out of the box: P4C 800 Deluxe. That's buying 5 new Asus-board and having only 1 running(my A7N8X). This is not good for publicity, 20% of the Asux-merchandise i've personally been involved with is good. THAT's 80% BAD ...or is it me Seems like the board from this post is also dead. we've tried everything, but no go....screen stays black. I've read a lot of problems with these boards, often due to powersupplys not giving enough juice. This boards runs on a Tagan 380W ps. We've hooked everything off, just mobo cpu+hs, graphics, memory and nothing happens on the screen, it just stays black as be4. Would it still need more power or what? Well, I'm no Asus fan anymore, they make great stuff, but sometimes(read 'alot of times) they make great stuff that doesn't work, or only for some time. Like this was the second most expensive board the store had, the other was the ABIT IC7-MAX3. Anyone knows some other good Intel-based board? I'm thinking that when the ppl from the store wanna change it for a new 1, it might not be ASUX anymore.
  5. My friend got his parts in today: ASUS P4C 800 Deluxe, P4 2.6 800fsb, 2x 512 Mb 3200, samsung 80 GB 8Mb cache, ATI 9200 SE 128. We've put everythig in, connected.... first power on nothing happens ....oooh pwr switch connector not in the right place...ok, fixed. Second try, everything powers up, fans spin but no screen. After connecting speakers to the system it says: system failed due to cpu overclocking . Everything's brand new and never been used......overclocking what the heck? Cleared CMOS and now it says completely nothing, no beep, no screen, nada Fans spin, leds work, graphicsheatsink warms a little and so does the cpu hs, but no picture at all. What the hell am i missing?
  6. Ok, thanks..but i have to clear something up: The maximum performance guidelines for PRO-Tools recommend or Intel-chipset or pure VIA-chipset, no mixed chipsets. The onboard-sound on the nForce-boards are really good, but this guy needs top of the bill audio for his recording cause the songs need to be almost or equally to professional recorded tracks, cause some recordings will be played at some of the biggest radiostations over here. I'll see if I can pull him over to AMD but i doubt it. And saving off on some parts....his guitar alone costs about 2500
  7. A friend of mine asked me to build him a new machine. He's a very talented guitarplayer and also plays a lot of other instruments. He writes songs and.....everything has got to do with music, you know. He has his own little studio and now needs a faster comp to record his music and make tracks for other musicians as well. He leans toward Intel. The specs needed to run his software(Pro Tools) can be found here. Enyone has experience with this kinda thing bout recording music? What mobo do you recommend since i have no experience with Intel and related issues? Asus preferably.....to go with a 2.6 800fsb cpu. About the memory...Corsair 512mb 3200 will cost 143
  8. fanATIc1205 is right, there is the 1.5 and 1.6V-type. From what i've read on this, the 1.5V(dlt3c) can't handle well anything above 1.8Vcore, while the 1.6(dut3c) can do up to 2.2Volt. But then again the 1.5Volter OC's better and runs cooler @ the same time. Maybe if u pic the dlt3c, u won't need a voltmod at all. I have the 1800+ dlt3c and went up to 2200Mhz @ 1.5Vcore. They almost ask 2 b OC'ed EDIT: They have 2 b OC'ed.
  9. I have dremeled out the space on my SLK 900u. If u hold the heatsink almost in the place where it should be, and you notice where there's contact between hs and caps/nb, mark those spots and start dremeling till the base fits the motherboard. For the nb u have to corner out 3 or 4 fins, one deeper as the other. For the little scrolls that apear where you filed the fins, use a little sharp knife. make shure any copper leftovers are completely removed from the heatsink, between fins, the base, etc.. If a little piece would be blown away afterward when the fan's on and cause a shortcut <_<
  10. Great, straight to the point answers. You're almost ahead of my questions Me thank u Now if i only knew what MBR stood for...?
  11. THx man, that was about the things i was thinking of. So if i instal a program i do it on the program files part. and for games i do it on the games part.? Just wanna make sure cause it's the first time i'm gonna do this all by myself and don't wanna make mistakes. Now, does it matter how i order the partitions, or just use C for the OS and the rest doesn't matter that much or what? ...and how do i do it? Like disconnect my 60Gb, hook up my 120Gb and do the install and partitioning and after that i hook up the 60Gb again to recover some data and stuff...? Will this work, cause i have now my OS on the C-partition of my 60 Gb maxtor which i used to boot from. Yeah, i know it's a lot of noobstuff
  12. Time for me to expand my disk space. Just bought a Seagate 7200.7 120Gb with 8 mb buffer. I have my previous 60Gb maxtor which i'm gonna use for some backup and other stuff. Now I've got some questions. How many partitions should i create on the new 120 Gb? How big should the partition for the OS and program files be? I have some version of partition magic, would that be good enough to do the trick? How should i place everything: OS, Mp3's, videoclips, games etc... Any tips to have it all nice 'n fast are more than welcome. Thx
