  1. vandreadstriker if you were buying a board right now would you snag a X77? Which one would you purchase and why? I have never owned a Gigabyte board, however I have owned 4 Asus boards and never had an issue. Do you feel the boards are stable enough to purchase one? I did line the boards against each other and compaired, Thank you for pointing out the differences, there does not seem to be much variation between the boards. Honestly I am very nervous about this part of the purchase. Everything else is pretty straight forward. I know a motherboard can make or break a system. I really appreciate all of the sound advice. 2. why is that worth jumping on over the ASUS version for about 10-20 dollars more? Why should i even bother with IB over SB. SB is a proven technology already in production. IB may be released at the end of April and will most likely have issues that need to be resolved. I do not see my self upgrading to IB when it is available. Plus Gigabyte's website does not say this supports IB. I am making a huge jump to SB over my current old machine. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131820
  3. I am afraid of waiting....for several reasons 1) the money I have saved for this machine will end up somewhere else (happened 2 times already, hence a 5+ year old machine) SB for me will be like going from a clunker car to a top end sports car 2) SB and the motherboards are solid proven technology with most of the bugs worked out 3) we are guessing which Motherboard will be good, they all could have some issue that we are not aware of, and will need to be fixed 4) What if the release date get changed again back to June+ 5) I am posting this from work, my wifes laptop is not able to meet my demands at home I am looking at purchasing the following...Let me know if you see any issues PS - CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX750 V2 750W http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139021&Tpk=CORSAIR%20Enthusiast%20Series%20TX750%20V2%20750W CPU i7-2600k MB - ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131792 RAM - CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (2x 8gb) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233246 Video card - EVGA SuperClocked GeForce GTX 560 (Fermi) 01G-P3-1461-KR Video Card (not sure on this..I do not need any high end graphics card..Starcraft2) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130661 - $159 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130625 -$119 SSD - Intel 520 Series Cherryville SSDSC2CW120A3K5 (120 gb) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820167093 HDD - Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136533 cooling - COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus RR-B10-212P-G1 "Heatpipe Direct Contact" Long Life Sleeve 120mm CPU Cooler Compatible Intel Core i5 & Intel Core i7 - $25 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065&Tpk=COOLER%20MASTER%20Hyper%20212%20Plus%20RR-B10-212P-G1 about $1200 I have a case already....Thank you everyone for the assistance
  4. I am still researching the machine, plus i was extremely busy this weekend with Easter...I want it now, however I do not want to make a costly mistake by rushing it. Why do you like the Sabertooth board? Is it worth the $30 more than ASUS P8Z77-V Intel Motherboard board and and $60 more than the ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131821 ASUS SABERTOOTH Z77 ATX Intel Motherboard - $239 (plus shipping)
  5. I would love to wait on the Ivy bridge....however my machine got fried in a storm and I really need it back. I think i might lose my mind if cannot play my MMO and use my own pc to work from. I am working from the wife's laptop and the IB release date is not solidly set. Even if it is released on time, when will MBs and chips really be available? The IB is suppose to use LGA 2011 socket type however everyone is saying it will not take full advantage of the chip and you will still need a new board. How much longer will you have to wait until you can really use it and how much more will it cost? I will most likely get at least 120gb ssd, either a intel or ocz one. i have used both brands of video cards in the past with success. My current computer is basicaly an antique and a SB setup will be like driving a high end sports car that will last me 5 years at least....
  6. I am lame...gaming wise Starcraft2 and MMO nothing special or taxing on the unit, however I do will be working form home on this unit and I do IT (last machine I built was 5 years ago) I will be doing some light VM work. I will also be coverting all of my personal dvds (100's of them) over to digtial as running out of room and this is becoming my best choice. I way to embarressed to admit what GPU i am currently useing. Video cards are what i have upgraded the most often and I would rather spend a bit more on the core part of the system and start with a bit cheaper card and upgrade later. I most likely will not upgrade the CPU/PSU, i may add more RAM, however I am planing to start at 16GB (2x 8GB). Ram: CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233246 $129 Crucial Ballistix sport 16GB: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148545 $134 only big difference i can see is the Cas LatencyPSU: why not go with a 750w unit? PSU OCZ ZS Series 750W 80PLUS - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341049 $99 OCZ ModXStream Pro 700W - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341018 - $89 Video cards: i love this site for just raw data ... http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html why go with a Radeon card which is made by AMD over a Geforce card? I like the GeForce GTX 560 Ti right now at about $200 or maybe the GeForce GTX 480 at $249 - i would love a 2GB of RAM card, however they are out of price range MSI N560GTX-Ti Twin Frozr II 2GD5/OC GeForce GTX 560 Ti - not to bad either http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127608 - $269 I know this is alot to look at...thanks in advance for any advice
  7. I plan on getting a SSD and standard hhd. That would leave me no extra SATA drive slots available for 6Gb/s. However the board does have an additional 3Gb/s connectors. Thanks for the advice. choice: P8Z68-V now on to the video card, ram and powersupply
  8. I have a mid range sound blaster, I will test and see which gives better performance. I will be doing some light VM work and I am trying future proof the machine a bit. I am sure 16GB (2x 8GB) will be plenty.
  9. Thank you, that makes alot of sense now. I would love to get a X79 motherboard, however they are out of the price range. Which of the two boards would you go with still, i am going to put 16gb of ram on the board right from the start. They seem almost identical. I have a sound card, however I will test out the onboard option. ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3, or ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3
  10. I will be using a sound card, however I will be using 16+gb of ram with plans to put a full 32gb of ram into the machine. Why would the amount of ram matter on these boards? Both can support up to 32gb.
  11. I am building a new machine, i7-2600k which will be used for both work and play. I will be putting at least 16gb ram, 64gb SSD in. I am looking at maybe overclocking the unit. I am not a hardcore gamer, but do enjoy playing games. I would rather spend more on the motherboard then video card. My last 2 machines I have used ASUS with great success. My current machine has lasted 5+ years and is now not able to keep up with my demands. I am stuck which motherboard to get I have about a $200 budget for it. I know all of these are close and I have looked at them side by side...
