Black64 Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 Having a monitor downscale will not hurt it, nor will upscaling hurt it. But you cannot run a higher res then is rated for a monitor. It's just not possible, the pixels aren't there to allow the resolution increase. Your GPU may allow it run higher, but the monitor will downscale or not even be able to display it. EuroFight Posted April 29, 2013 Posted April 29, 2013 I believe you can set a custom resolution in Catalyst Control Center for AMD GPUs. There should be an equivalent on the NVIDIA line... Euro

wevsspot Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 As Black pointed out, regardless of how many pixels the gpu is trying to send to the monitor, the monitor can only display the maximum number of pixels as determined by it's native maximum resolution. potatochobit Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 if you have a CRT when you use a VGA cable it scales so it doesnt matter with current technology there is absolutely no reason to do run a higher resolution than your monitor can display all you are doing is forcing the video scaler to do extra work this is all automatic now, you would have to manually force a higher resoultion to display in the first place and is a waste of time
