The Internet is shutting down! It is finally happening! The source of "The Internet" is empty!

I can see the headlight of the newspaper already, "No Internet, we can't give you any news!"

On-topic,

No idea why you have a bad connection, maybe someone is tapping your Internet :P

*Resists "Comcast: well there's your problem" joke*

I would start with the direct plug in to the modem option and power cycle again to test it just to rule out anything crazy. (might want to try a different PC just to be sure something isn't killing DL on the PC you tested with if you haven't already tried another)

After that chances are giving Comcast a call if it's their modem is going to be the "easiest" option, otherwise might want to hit up a local retail store to buy one to "test" with assuming Comcast isn't one of those providers that hides all settings from the end users.  I know one local ISP around here does that to try and make it harder for you to get out of their monthly modem lease so that may be harder to do.

Oh just thought about this, if you're in one of the Comcast areas where they have AND enforce the monthly data caps it COULD be throttling related to that. Sounds similar to what one buddy of mine ran into with them when they rolled out that program in his area.

1. Power cycle modem (take out power cable & coaxial)

2. Plug directly into modem.

3. If you still have issues, contact Comcast. If not it could be your router or PC.

1. did that

2. did that too, could not get IP address

3. Did that, rep said she would escalate

Data cap is disabled, according to the account page.
