  1. I am in process of completing my first new computer build. I was planning on using my old hdd to transfer all files and os to new ssd hybrid....750g. Old hdd is 460g so lots of room to transfer data. Problem is that from what I have been reading, is that its not a direct transfer. My new system is CPU: Intel i5-3570K 3.4Ghz - Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H - Psu: Corsair HX850M - Ram: G.Skill 8GB DDR3-1800 Kit SSD Hybrid :Seagate Momentus XT 750GB Solid State Hybrid SATA Sorry I do not have the links to my old system as that computer is about 6 yrs old and I needed an upgrade so decided to build it. What I was looking for was if I needed another external hdd to copy to and then transfer to ssd as from what I have been reading it sounds that way. I thought it could be a direct transfer but not sure. The building part was the easy stuff....the data transfer is not so easy for me. I plan on putting in old hdd to transfer all files and os and then removing it after. I do not have oem windows 7 boot discs as it did not come with it when I bought the old computer. I was just reading some info online and it was saying that register key may be needed if many items are changed from original. As I am changing everything and just copying from 1 computer to another so to speak will I need they key numbers?
  2. I recently picked up the seagate momentus xt 750g ssd hybrid and want to transfer data from my old 640g hdd. I am unsure as i do not have the oem boot disc. I would like to transfer but unsure how to do it without issues. I see that most recomend a program to do this but was hoping that win 7 could do it as well. It would be great to get a link on how to do this as I do plan on removing old hdd and just use the new ssd hybrid.
  3. Thanks for your time and effort to help me pick a setup. It is greatly appreciated. I am not sure if you mean the mobo you picked will be better in the long run than the other but going to order soon. Was looking at ordering everything next week , just waiting to check pricing in a few places first. Not on Toronto area ,Nova Scotia to be specific.
  4. Well I thought I knew a little bit about computers until I started to look at the differnt builds. Wow I don't know crap. AMD vs intel, I hear amd is cheaper but consumes way more power. Then I thought I wouls start at cases and power supplies. Mid tower as its not a top end gammer rig I need. Just plan on playing wow and swtor so I figure a 750 W power supply would do. I also hear that 1 graphics card will do good enough rather than trying to run sli/crosfire. I would like to play these games on high resolution so I turn here for help. These links is what I ws looking at to start with and go from there until I decide AMD or intel. Not sure what video card will do but was thing of Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 1000MHZ 2GB 4.8GHZ GDDR5 DVI HDMI 2XMINIDP PCI-E Video Card but not sure I need one that good. Looking for some help as I would like this to be upgradable but hopefully not for a couple of years anyway. I am always looking to save some money but will get what I need so budget is not unlimited but would like to keep it reasonable, under 2k would be nice. http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=16950AC9361 http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=27130AC8766 http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=16950BD2665&vpn=11199-00-20G&manufacture=SAPPHIRE Thanks and looking for some helpful response. I live in Canada so US shipping is quite reasonable but I find newegg kinda high on some pieces compared to other shops.
  5. I was also wondering if this GPU would match my current motherboard as it looks like i will prob get it next yr for my upgrade http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130787 I was also looking at the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131821 for a motherboard for next yrs build.
  6. I ws just going to get the PSU and GPU for now.
  7. It is a p6210y model and it did come with the 3 sticks of ram. And thanks for the help. I am going to order the parts soon. Thanks Again.
  8. I am not on that computer as I am at work and just put the stats in an e-mail so i could link at work (as I am at work right now). I will link rest of info as soon as I get back home. It does have 3 sticks of ram(2G each) . I just can't rem model right now. I use it for a couple of games and some office programs(that run fine on it now). I am looking to build a new one in spring but want to build a high end gamer rig then so was hoping these 2 upgrades would carry over in next build. If not then i would upgrade and replace everything in the spring. I will check if mobo is oem as I am not sure as I just going on memory and I bought the system about 3 yrs ago from Future Shop.
  9. my budget I would say is 7-800 on these 2 items.

  11. It has 300w for max output but figure i will end up replacing it. Not too woried about buying these 2 items if needed just can't replace all of it yet and if psu is good enough i will use in my build next year.
  12. I am not sure what to upgrade my video card to. I want to be able to play games but current card is not the best. If power supply needs to be upgraded with a new video card then i will change both. here are specs on my comp. I would like a total rebuild but that is out for this year...maybe next year. --[ Summary ]----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Computer: Computer Type ACPI x64-based PC Operating System Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium OS Service Pack [ TRIAL VERSION ] Internet Explorer 9.0.8112.16421 (IE 9.0) DirectX DirectX 11.0 Computer Name PAUL-PC User Name Paul Logon Domain [ TRIAL VERSION ] Date / Time 2012-08-26 / 16:32 Motherboard: CPU Type QuadCore AMD Athlon II X4 620, 2600 MHz (13 x 200) Motherboard Name Pegatron M2N78-LA (Violet) (3 PCI-E x1, 1 PCI-E x16, 4 DDR2 DIMM, Audio, Video, LAN, IEEE-1394) Motherboard Chipset nVIDIA GeForce 9100, AMD K10 System Memory [ TRIAL VERSION ] DIMM2: Kingston HP5189-2180-HYE [ TRIAL VERSION ] DIMM3: Kingston HP5189-2180-HYE [ TRIAL VERSION ] DIMM4: Kingston HP5189-2180-HYE [ TRIAL VERSION ] BIOS Type AMI (09/08/09) Display: Video Adapter NVIDIA GeForce 9100 (256 MB) Video Adapter NVIDIA GeForce 9100 (256 MB) 3D Accelerator nVIDIA GeForce 9100 Monitor Acer G215HV [21.5" LCD] (LRN080024220)
  13. Thanks for the list and links. I figured the non essentials would be a less of an issue but the guts or brains was where I was lacking the knowledge. I appreciate the work done to compensate for my lack of knowledge in putting the internal brains together to make the rig. I have never built a computer yet so this wil be my first crack at it and wanted to make sure the parts would be even so there would be no bottleneck so to speak. Also glad to hear thet the rig will be better than I thought it would rank. Thanks , I will let you know how it turns out but might be a while. A couple of weeks for sure.
  14. Hi all. This will be my first build and not the best at gear knowledge for gaming. Looking for a mid range build of about $1200-$1800 in total cost. Just looking for advice on a build spec list in that range. Also, not getting everything all at once. For now just looking for case, ps,hd/ssd and other minor list. This will be mostly a gaming build and not sure if I am going to go sli/cf so not sure on 750,850 or 1000w ps.Not sure about motherboard yet as not sure if going to wait for the z77 chipset or go with the z68. For gpu about the same as not sure if I want to wait for nvidia to launch their new 6xx later this year or go with a GTX580 1.5 gb or the ATI 7970.I am not sure of the i5 or i7 as i will not be needing the hyper threading for my rig.Mid or full tower? You see why I stated that I am not getting all at once but if someone can list a build that is in my range then all will be good to order. I am suspecting the new z77 might drop other boards so I am willing to wait to order as well as the gpu's. Should i run sli/cf or not, I hope this build will last a couple of years before upgrades so looking for advice. Thanks
