oldgoat99 Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 I need a new video Card. Budget is $150, preferably less. What would you recommend? System specs below. Thanks
ir_cow Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 The Geforce 750 Ti would be an amazing upgrade from a 9600gt. You can find them for $100 most of the time.
IVIYTH0S Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 Not afraid of used are ya? If not, 7970 for sure! If so, what he said ^
El_Capitan Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 Used, some good options: GTX 680 GTX 760 HD 7970 (or R9 280x) New, you're looking at: GTX 660 after MIR R9 270X after MIR Without MIR, you're looking at: GTX 750 Ti
oldgoat99 Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 ok, like this one?... [RANT] I hate shopping graphics cards! It's worse than shopping used cars. Model numbers don't mean crap. At least with cars when you look at them you can almost always count on the model as an indication of power. For example if you see a car with a model number ES200 and another model ES350 you can assume the ES350 is going to have more power or at least it will be an upgrade from the ES200. Not so with graphics cards, they're all over the place. [/RANT] I guess that's why there are forums with experts.
IVIYTH0S Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 (edited) Hard to recommend anything other than the HD7970 with deals like this found fairly easily (you could do even better if you consider mining cards): HD7970 for $140 Edited December 19, 2014 by IVIYTH0S
oldgoat99 Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 I've been burned a couple times on used parts. Even with a guarantee it's a pita to do a return and get a refund. I think I'm going with a GTX 660 which can be had for $130 after MIR. Power supply requirement seems low. From what I remember from 5 years ago, the graphics cards were more power hungry back then than they are now, no? It looks like it will work well with my 620W power supply. I appreciate all your inputs. Thanks
IVIYTH0S Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 Yeah your 620W would be fine for that, though since that 7970 is an XFX I *believe* it'd be lifetime warranty for you
SpikeSoprano Posted December 19, 2014 Posted December 19, 2014 The 660 is a solid card, so far only game I have a problem playing is assissans creed unity, everything else plays fine on high settings.
ir_cow Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 /Isn't the GTX 750 faster any cheaper than the GTX 660?
SpikeSoprano Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 Cheaper sometimes, but not faster. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1130?vs=1039
Waco Posted December 20, 2014 Posted December 20, 2014 I'd still go with a 750 ti just for the power savings and newer technologies. Just my opinion.
