Samsung 30nm DDR3 sticks

Recommended Posts

Back in April when I built my rig I bought two sticks of the Samsung 4GB DDR3-1600 (MV-3V4G3/US) and I knew then that I would be slapping myself for not buying 4 sticks. I haven't seen them in stock since then. Is there something I'm missing about this memory? Is it discontinued? Has it been replaced with a new kit? I really want to buy 2 or 4 more sticks, but they won't let me! What's the dealio?

it sells fast when it come in stock... it works well for those that use it.

I bought the Crucial Ballistix with the Samsung low voltage ICs and have had nothing but issues with it on every board... their version isnt so good...

A friend of mine from work said the same thing about his, which is why I decided not to even try the Crucial sticks. I have it set to notify me when they come back in stock and I haven't received an email in 8 months. I would stop whatever I was doing and buy it if I only I got a damn notification email. lol

Lol, I have I think 36 of those sticks. They only seem to work best with Sandy/Ivy Bridge. Tried using them on my i7 980X, and they didn't overclock well at all. Just kept them at 9-9-9-24-1T at 1600MHz. On my RIVE, I can get them to 2400MHz at 10-11-11-28-1T at 1.59V's or to 1866MHz at 8-9-9-24-1T at 1.5V's.

I've been keeping an eye out, but yeah, they don't sell them for $32 per 2x4GB kit anymore, which is a shame. They're at a normal $40 or even higher, when they're in stock.

mine havent worked on any AMD set up so far... I got them to boot on an Asus 890GDTpro but only at 1.55v and I did get it to boot on an ECS E350 board but only ar 1333mhz and it was hit or miss....I plan to try it on an FM2 board as soon as it gets here or just save it for something else.

I do have a Atom/ION that I may try it on

I fired these sticks up this morning on an ASRock FM2A85X-ITX motherboard with same basic results as other AMD stuff...

It did post right away and unlike Asus boards I was able to navigate the BIOS without freezing... It detected the ram at 1333 @1.35v and worked well until Save & Exit then it auto booted them at 1600mhz same voltage... changing anything it decided not to POST or boot and it hit or miss on a reset... most time it would post @1600mhz just not boot to a bootable flash drive...

Setting it at 1333 manually or higher voltage result in no post... How ever, there is 2 XMP profiles both 1600mhz speed but 1 @ 1.35v and the other @ 1.5v

I set the first one and it boots and POST no issue so far....I'm currently running memtest 86+ v4.20 and it does NOT detect the ram right... it says 304mhz (ddr2 600mhz) CAS 1-3-3-3-3 and runs the memory test and really zips thru the last 25% of the test... I notice more and more on AMD rig memtest doesnt fully correctly detect the ram...

but hey its running and as long as it continues its good.

These are teh Crucial Ballistix 1.35 low voltage, low profile ram

these are the ones and they were 39.99ea

  • 3 weeks later...

It looks like they've been discontinued. Does anyone know if Samsung is planning on making a replacement for these? Really sad if not. Performance aside, the ultra-low profile made them almost invisible in the case. I'm not a big fan of these super flamboyant heat spreaders. :(

The Samsung sticks have shown up at MicroCenter, Frys, and NCIX, among others as sale leaders at higher prices. (all DDR3 memory seems higher, 2x4 GB $50-60 and up.

superbiiz thru amazon one stick $37

what I am seeing is most "wonder Ram" chips are going to server ECC memory
