Ok basically now when i turn the computer on the fan will spin for a bit (when posting) then stop completely and just do nothing (when it moves to the next screen to search for a drive to boot windows from, or when i enter the bios it will also stop). I was wondering is this just a feature of the bios's trying to keep system noise down because silverfox mentioned that sometimes his fan (on a E6600) sometimes switches off completely and thought that might be what mine is doing. However i set the smart fan control thing to disable which i assumed would just run it full power all the time, but after saving and rebooting it doesn't. i was wondering if you guys could tell me what setting i should put it at and what way it should behave on that setting. The bios has the options: Auto, Intel QST, Legacy and disable.
Btw it was only tonight that it started doing this run for a bit and then stop business, before it would jerk back and forth like it didn't have enough power to keep going and if i flicked it with my finger it would sometimes continue but i checked the pins with a multimeter and they read the correct 12v as theey should meaning the fan is getting plenty of power.
i don't like the idea of having the fan not running, i can cope with extra noise so an not really fussed there. Also i can't see myself doing anything stressfull that would raise the temps enough to test it (all i can do atm is sit in the bios, and i would like to have this thing working while i install windows and not have any problems half way through) also i don't really want to let the temps rise loads just to test it.
So what do you guys think?
