my cousin has a problem with his IPOD. here is what he told me was the prob:
Ok here is what went down
I had changed some song data in iTunes, and i wanted to update those songs on my iPod, so i connected it to my pc
then it updated and when i checked it it had no songs on it, so i tried to update it again, but then iTunes could not read my iPod
i tried using the iPod updater to restore it, but it would not restore it
i got really mad so i unplugged my iPod from the pc when it said not to dissconnect, and this caused a new error
it then had the Apple icon and a folder error icon flash onscreen, from there i was able to restore it using my iPod updater
i then updated it, and tried to download all songs onto my iPod
once it got about halfway there on song 8??-9?? it stopped
so i checked my iPod for songs , but it had none - yet it said that 3.9 or so GB were being used
after that i gave up
So if anyone has any ideas please let me know and i will get them to him. we are both stumped.

See I am just starting to get in to the Ipod world. My friend let me use his Ishuffer for a few days and I got pissed with that. Because I couldn't keep the songs on there. What I mean is when I uploaded new songs the other ones just would delete off and that pissed me off. I'm kind of scared of getting a 30GB photo Ipod. Because I feel I might fill it up and then it will jsut delete. I feel the problem is Itunes. I hate the program and I am looking for another program out there to upload songs to my Ipod gear.
Hit me back if you find answer to this post. Because I would like to know how to fix a problem likes is...

I had a similar problem recently with my 3rd generation iPod. One day songs would randomly skip on my iPod as I was listening to it. I restored it and then put the songs back on via iTunes. This worked for about a week or so and then it started happening again. So I repeat the process, except this time the songs fail to finish updating. Soon after when I started using the iPod, it gave me the folder error screen.
I searced a bunch of forums, especially Apple ones, to figure out what the problem was and how to solve it, if possible. Unfortunately, the folder error pretty much means you're screwed. Your hard drive is slowly failing and the only thing you can do is get it replaced. Since my iPod was over 20 months old (well over the expected life of 16 to 18 months), I decided to just buy the new 4th generation iPod.

if ur looking for a replacment then u might like to take a look at this. I haven't really looked into it, just sort of came across it when looking to use my ipod on a linux machine. I do believe that it can be installed on windows though. Check it out and let me know what you think.
