Cespenar Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 AMD Sata 6GB/second header! ASMedia Sata 6GB/second header! Both on my ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 What is the difference of these headers? And if there is none, why have a difference?
SpikeSoprano Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 (edited) There is no difference in the asmedia headers except they may be a bit faster than the amd ones. For some strange reason the board is made with only 5 sata3 amd headers and 2 ASMEDIA sata3 headers. I believe the asmedia ports are extra ports because the asus chipset will only support 5. Cespenar Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Thanks Spike. I'm glad you said strange! Something like that was on my mind! (Strange as it is)
Waco Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I'd use the AMD ports first, but that's just because Asmedia controllers tend to be slower.
WhenKittensATK Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 (edited) Yeah it's usually speed. My board has Intel and Marvell. Definitely wouldn't want to use an SSD on Marvell over an Intel slot. As for why most have two different brands could be pricing and controller's number of hdd support. El_Capitan Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 If you're using a HDD, it won't make too much of a difference. If you're using an SSD, you're top speed will be limited, but it'll still be snappy. http://computerhardwareupgrades.blogspot.com/2012/04/intel-sata-ii-vs-marvell-sata-iii-vs.html
