Ready to buy a new power supply

Recommended Posts

As the title says, I'm ready to purchase a new power supply. I'm looking at between 800 and 900 watts and I'd like to stay in the $150 range, +/- $20. I've been looking at a few options, but I still have some questions.

The Seasonic M12II-850 for $129.99 on Amazon

Corsair RM 850 for $144.99 on Amazon

Corsair HX 850 for $159.99 on Newegg

Is there a reason to pay more for the Corsairs over the Seasonic? They seem identical in specs and brand aside I can't tell a difference. Reviews are pretty much the same.

Also, Is there a reason to pay more for the HX 850 over the RM? Once again, they seem identical aside from the aesthetics so I don't understand the price premium for the HX.

Is there another valid option in this price range? What does everyone think?

Based on the pricing differential I'd be completely happy with Seasonic M12II-850

The Seasonic is a great price, I think it would be your best buy, also 90% modular and a reliable brand.

That's what I was thinking, I was just surprised to see it was so inexpensive relative to Corsair. Am I just paying for the brand with Corsair?

I'll preface this by saying that I have been a long time Corsair power supply loyalist.  But frankly, these days there are better power supplies priced equal to or in many cases less than the Corsair equivalents.  More important than the brand name is the OEM responsible for the platform (warranty and end user support aside).

I still use a Corsair power supply to this day in my gaming rig, but if I were ever in the market I would certainly shop other brands.
