After installing Windows 7, my HDD is not recognized.

Also, I've installed the OS twice. Both times, after restarting and removing the optical drive from the inital boot device and restarting, after posting a black screen appears, with the flashing underscore in the top left of the screen. However, this does not occur if I don't tamper with the boot order.

Pertinent Info:
-No updated drivers/firmware for my motherboard or SSD (I'll be doing that when I get home)
-The OS ran smoothly with the exception of the detection of my HDD
-OS Installed on an 18GB partition of my SSD
-My HDD is recognized in BIOS

System Specifiactions:
-MSI Eclipse x58
-OCZ 30GB Vertex Turbo
-6GB (2x3) Mushkin Redline
-1TB Western Digital Caviar Green
-920 D0
-Windows 7 x64 Home Premium

Thanks for looking this over, even if you don't have any ideas/suggestions

1. Is it formatted?
2. Does it show in disk management?
3. Does it show in device manager?

It has to show in one or two of those... its its not formatted it may not show... but I assume since your posting this it has data on it and is not showing up for some reason... check device manager if that's the case.

Have you checked out hard disk priority? Make sure your SSD is the first one

Okay, my HDD is recognized under my Device Manager, but nowhere else besides BIOS

I doubt it's formatted, how would I go about doing that?

As for driver priority, I can't find to seem the option in the BIOS as I did with my old 780i, my HDD also has no jumper for me to make it a slave to the SSD, is that required?

I don't get your problem.. From what I understand, you can't boot into Windows 7 after removing your DVD... Right? But it works fine with the DVD in? This doesn't make sense...

Or is it that you can't Windows 7 at all.. If you can then if your HDD was detected during the setup, no reason for it to not be detected later..

Or is it that you can boot but there is no drive except the OS drive in explorer??

In the first two cases try removing all drives except your optical drive and HDD (the one you want to install your OS on), do the installation and you should be good to go..
You could try disabling the AHCI mode (but that is more for Xp.. Win7 has AHCI drivers so that shouldn't be an issue)..

Which HDD do you have?

Start>Right click Computer>Click Mange>Expand Storage option>Click Disk Management>you should see a drive that is not partitioned right click on it and then click format and then the rest should be self explanatory.

I'm a little late on this but yeah do what the above two people said.. since its in device manager but not My Computer that means its not formatted/partitioned so use disk management.
