A family friend just brought me his Gateway GT5252 desktop computer... When plugged in, the computer immediately starts running at full speed, but never even get to post. I've already tried unplugging all devices and no change. I took out the memory and tried starting it again and it started just the same with no beeping like it SHOULD do if it detected there was no memory. I've tried a second power supply as well and no change. I know the hard drive starts spinning as well as the rom drive and the fans go full speed.

He said they had a power outage last week and the next time he powered up his PC, it did this. I've tested all the other components, and they all work fine.

Motherboard possibly got zapped?

I had a similar problem and i couldn't say why it happened but I'm almost absolute sure it's the motherboard.

My memory sticks were running in dual-channel when I got the problem, computer turned on, all fans at 100% but no post. 1 memory stick, Wouldn't post, the other memory stick wouldn't post either, both in single channel and the computer booted normally. tried dual-channel again, no post.

I know it's strange but give it a try.

+1.

Is that computer old? Maybe it's still under warranty.

I've tried booting with NO ram in the PC and it didn't even give a warning beep like all other PC's i've worked on do... I've also tried every slot with a single stick. No luck... Looking into a new or used mobo now... Thanks
