Hello Ladies & Gents !!

I wanna change my old GF8800GS 384 to GTX260 or ATI4890 ... But I have a question - will my Intel e6400 2.13@3.2 bottleneck the video cards ???
(P.S My monitors max res. is 1280-1024)
And if it NOT, what will be better choiсe -

Gigabyte GTX 260 216SP Super Overclock http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/VGA/Pr...e=GV-N26SO-896I
OR
MSI 4890 1gb Cyclone http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc...mp;prod_no=1850

In my opinion, Cyclone is bit faster , but pruduсe lots of heat (My case is not well ventilated)

Thanks !

You should be okay with that proccy, and it really is a toss up between the 2 cards.Id probably go for the gtx because it pushes heat out the back whereas the cooler on the 4890 will just release it into your case. Also i think i remember reading that particular 260 is neck and neck with a gtx275.

At 1280x1024, these cards will provide very high framerates. I am sure a dual-core will bottleneck them in certain situations.

Yes, you are right - this particular GTX260 has 25% performance boost over standard GTX260 graphics card
and 3% better performance than standard GTX 275 graphics card.. And I agree , it's better, when the card pushing heat out the back ..
But 4890 with overclock is more powerful (I think 260 will not overclock any more)

But how huge this bottleneck will be ???
P.S Is Ati 4870 512m will give me same framerate as 4890 1g or Gtx275 while playing at 1280-1024 ??

that depends on the games you play , if you play a game that loves ATI 4870 will perform the same as 275 or better
and if you play a game that loves the green team and is a physx enabled one then 260 will beat 4890and 4870 , i remember that one of our top reviewers (cockeman) here said that his bro has 260 and he gave 4890 , he said : his brother noticed that 260 performs better than 4890 ..in the games he plays ..tell us what games you play and we will tell ya what card to get ..smile.gif

btw , i read a review that says the msi cyclone is not as good as it looks ..gigabyte's 4890 UD kicks it's butt and they cost the same

Hmm.. MSI is really not so good.
Ok, I found gigabyte's 4890 . The price is almost the same as gigabyte's 260 SO (MSI4890 is lil bit cheaper). So , just need to choose between gigabyte's 4890 or 260 ..

P.S I wanna play Far Cry 2 , Crysis , COD MF2 , GTA4 and in near future - Mafia2 , maybe new Need for speed
(Everything Maxed out at 1280-1024 biggrin.gif --- is it possible with my Cpu ??)

I'd go with the GTX260 if the prices are similar. If the gap is $30 or larger I'd go with a regular 4890 (with a rear-exhaust cooler).

I don't really think, that my CPU can 'produce enough power' for Oc'ed 275 (in stock 275 is lil bit slower, than 260 SO http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardw...ock-review.html )
and 275 is 15-20% expensive
