Why do we have no alternative to P55 northbridge chipsets?, Is Intel trying to monopolize the market?

As the title suggests, I've been wondering where our 'nVidia 890i' chipset is! Where is our Via alternative?! Why are we being forced to choose only what Intel has provided? Am I the only one who is upset by this?

Are there legal reasons behind it? Are the other companies still working towards developing chipsets?

legal reasons. Pretty much Intel told nVidia that they aren't licensed for Intel's new QPI/DMI bus. I believe there was a court case filed to that ruled in favor of Intel. so that's why there aren't any 1366/1156 boards with nVidia chipsets

A monopoly is never a good thing. But in this particular instance the computer world is a much better place without the trash nVidia has tried passing off as a chipset the last few years.

I'm no fan of Via, but what is stopping them? The same legalities?
