so my toshiba F50 laptop was working like a dream until suddenly the GPU on the 9700m GTS (nvidia) began overheating ridiculously fast. i noticed that the doesnt seem to be pumping out air like it used to so i assumed it was dirty. compressed air didnt solve the problem, rolling back the drivers/updating hte drivers didnt work. so i assumed it was a failing fan. i then noticed when i start the laptop during the POST test the fan does hit 100% then goes back down to resting speed. i feel like fan isnt being told to speed up when it gets hot.
ive tried rivatuner ntune and msi afterburner all of which have their "fan speed" options greyed out and cannot be adjusted? when i tried using ntunes fan options i BSOD'ed and nvoclk64.sys was the issue. im using Windows 7 Pro and would really appreciate any help... im totally stumped at this point and im praying my card isnt in trouble of failing |

The fan going 100% at the start-up for brief moments then reducing the speed is pretty normal.
When you say "overheating" are you talking about high temperatures or to the point you get BSOD's and artifacts? Install Nvidia System Tools: http://www.nvidia.com/object/nvidia_system_tools_6.05.html then in the control panel go to device settings, choose manual and adjust the fan speed. See if it works that way. I don't know much about laptops though.
