For my planned rig, I wanna go for a Sapphire Radeon 5870 HD Vapor-X, but my friend keeps pestering me to go for the Nvidia GTX 295. I'm a bit conflicted, so, which one do you guys think is better? Any why?
(He says its like comparing a Wii and PS3 and that there are lots of issues, like you can't play even WoW using the radeon XD.)

HD5870:

Takes less power, runs cooler, amazing price to performance ratio vs. the GTX295, and has the ability to get better with newer drivers.

what the others said, the 295 is too expensive even if it is slightly faster at times

The 5870 makes the most sense. It just depends on what you want out of it really. You didn't say what screen size you were playing on.

How soon are you looking at building your new rig?

You know, in light of my recent card troubles I was pondering this same thing. You can get a 295 used for around $400-450 and with the 5870's prices artificially inflated they run about the same price.

It's a tough decision because I know I want PhysX to work in my games. I don't yet know if DX11 is going to make a difference. Will it?

I'm also thinking of just going back to a single card and having a 5870 means I'll have to keep the 8800GT around for PhysX.

On the other hand, I feel like paying even $400 for what will soon become Nvidia's old series of cards is just not right.

I sold the 275. I just sold the 5850. I'm running just the 8800GT until I decide what I want to do.

What I want to do is up in the air, and related to this thread biggrin.gif

face it, you were just made to own an 8800GT, you'll be happy to know that your old 8800GT is folding away quite nicely for me (as I haven't done any physx gaming since Mirror's Edge), right now I'm having my fill of DX10.1 (stalker clear sky)

I think at this point the mere fact that the 295 isn't dx11 capable just cinches the argument. I think it's assinine to spend more on a card that doesn't support the latest direct x, something that WILL become ubiquitous over time.

Serious Question: What makes DX11 the next big thing? DX10 sure had a short lifespan...

ya but the 5870 doesn't have physx, not that I support the 295, just saying.
