Why do the fallout 3 terminals look like they're from the seventies/eighties? They're definently not from 2300

I guess to give that post-apocalyptic feeling. The timeline in Fallout 3 doesn't feel like our timeline. It looks like the game is set in a 1950s era, instead of a futuristic setting like the date the game says it takes place.

Ignore the weaponry, listen to the radio. It's authentic 1950s. That's the only real thing about it. Everything else is fairy tale made for the game. The Great War took place in 2077, you think they would actually be radio stations still playing music from the 1950s. Then the game starts 200 years later in 2277 in the Vault.

the nuclear war occurred around the 50s so the world is very much untouched though the timeline is different from ours with more nuclear devices and nuclear cars. The lasers may have been spawned from the expermientation with nuclear tech.

Yes, even when you look at the Design of The nukes, and most other weaponry you can tell its got an oldschool 1950's style to it. Kind of like bioshock, you get plasmids which can launch hornets out of your veins but the game is also set in roughly 1959
 Think of all this as if its in a parallel universe or something, maybe then it will make more sence

It's like that as people have said - for a good reason. Some technologies were researched, but others were not

Its also based on an alternate 1950s era then ours, thus why things feel somewhat similar but different from a world of that time.
