I got my new Gigabyte 5850 today and installed it. I uninstalled all of the old ATI drivers and then updated to the newest drivers from the website. The card is set up but there are a few issues.

Fallout 3 noticed the change in hardware and thus ran the graphics settings chooser, but it automatically insists on running at high and not ultra high.
Even when I switch to ultra high myself the game stutters alot and framerates drop quite heavily. I don't understand why when I saw 4870's reaching framerates of about 70.

Mass Effect for PC is TERRIBLE for framerate drops. I must have hit about 10 - 15 frames during a rendered cutscene =/ And even then the graphic settings turned out to be turned down pretty low.

What might be the problem?

Try driver sweeper: http://downloads.guru3d.com/Guru3D---Drive...p%29_d1655.html

Uninstall, reboot in safe mode, run driver sweeper for ATI, reboot normally, install newest ATI drivers.

At the resolution you are playing at,you are cpu bound,as the gfx card doesnt have to work that hard.I would start oc'ing that quad to see what you can get out of it.Aim for 3ghz for now, good luck!

How can I do that? My motherboard isn't really renowned for being an overclocking one...It has this thing in the BIOS called intelligent stepping but the PC didn't even startup when i changed that

I would try what Crazy_Nate suggests before I went and overclocked anything.

Look in the oc'ing section of your bios and look for 'front side bus'(fsb) increasing that will increase the cpu speed but do it slowly.Doing this will also increase your ram speed so you should hope you have a memory divider option.Look here for more detailed info: http://forums.overclockersclub.com/index.php?showtopic=71656

I used to play @1280x1024 as well and oc'ing my cpu helped my frame rates greatly. So i would overclock tbh.

Reinstalling drivers is a much easier process (and quicker - especially when ensuring stability). Especially if you've never overclocked before... I say, it's worth a shot...and it can't hurt.

Wow! IVI, that is one helluva paranoid driver reinstall! Hah! I guess it works, but I've never had to go that far. Then again, the last time I used ATI drivers - I didn't - I used Omega drivers (tongue.gif)

ya that guide is my love. I've never had any issues, and I'm sure atleast once I would have had one but that guide just removes any chance of drivers being the problem for me.
