Not really a surprise. They would have to drop the player limit cap to do player hosted games. There is a lot more going on in a BF game than regular FPS games.

Their statement on this doesn't really matter to me. Because I can go and play story and co-op mode on MW2 later this month, thus skipping the frag throwing fest of CoD multiplayer. While I have to wait half a year and then a year+ for Bad Company 2 and BF3. I'm a fan of DICE, but their statement is kinda pointless at this time, since they got no game to shove in my hands, while the other guy does.

Bad company 2 is suppose to be out in March 2, 2010 so its not that too long of a wait.

I've heard BF3 is suppose to be out in a year but its still too early to tell typically EA doesn't release games in Nov like every other game maker does they typically go for late winter/early spring to release them.

All I got to say is give it a chance. Don't completely bash something you haven't even tried yet.

Bad Company 2 does come out in March, but that's 5 months away and thus nearly half a year. Which is a long time to me. I'm not hating on DICE, BF2 was the game that made me spend $1500 to build my first PC. I own every BF game after BF2, except BF Modern Combat.

Most people are buying Modern Warfare 2 for the multiplayer mode. Yeah, they might play single player, but no dedicated servers is turning a lot of people off, regardless of the fact if it makes sense or not. But DICE sees this and gives the customer what they want while Infinity Ward doesn't; simple as that.

This is like the whole D3 art style QQing of earlier this year. It obviously didn't change or dent plans of D3. I'm assuming its not going to dent the changes made to MW2 as well.

Losing a few thousand potential customers isn't going make Activision suddenly jump ship, when they can milk money off of console gamers for DLC.

You got your number really wrong. Also, a vast majority of those pre-orders were for consoles.

I agree with you though, Activision / Infinity Ward isn't going to be hit with losing money, but if I were them I would care about losing my original fanbase.

Edit: Right now they're going to lose $10,080,000 on this.

I think any game developer would implement dedicated servers for 10 million bucks.

Well no one posts data on PC purchases anymore, so using the bigger console community to make an educated sum would be the closest thing as consoles do sell more than PC versions.

Based on the petition: 14717 customers * $50 = $735,850. They don't get all that $50 to begin with anyways. So they aren't losing very much. The 2 million preorders are in the US only, the number would be maybe another 1-2 million higher worldwide. While the online petition is worldwide and hasn't really proved anything, but just a small handful of customers. Where did you get $10 million from?

Activision doesn't care they got a new bigger fan base that doesn't pirate their games as much.
